Good morning all:

I know this is long, but feel it is very important. Also, I couldn't have managed this server without the amazing help I have received in doing so specifically from Marsha Bryant and Jeff Kemp. It's a challenge, I dare say, to manage something with over 500 sites since January 2018.

Please be advised that I am in the process of updating this server.  If you have a coordinator who has their county on this server, the 2 requirements that I have are simple.

1. The site must be ONLY associated with The USGenWeb Project and may not carry logos to other non-USGenWeb projects; and
2. Must carry a logo and link to USGenWebSites.org.  Logos can be found here:  http://www.usgenwebsites.org/logos.html

Needless to say, the sites should comport with The USGenWeb Project's requirements as well.

Please note, I am not trying to be rude or nasty about this, but since January 2018 this has been a very safe place to host many of the Project's sites.  (It was set up to manage the counties that went offline due to Ancestry/Rootsweb's issues that began occurring about December 2017.)  Those who are not complying with these meager requests and requirements should immediately be locating other hosting unless they choose to add the logo and link.  I have had well over 500 sites hosted on this server in support of USGenWeb because I care deeply for this project.  I truly feel that these requests/ requirements are minor.  Donations are always welcomed but have not been a requirement.

If the donation button at the top of the site is not working, you can always send donations to me via Paypal  at dawe...@aol.com, or request a street mailing address privately and I will provide that to you. .

Please check where your states' coordinators are hosting their counties. If they are not willing and/or refuse to adhere to these 2 items, you should advise your coordinators that they either need to move to your state's server(s), or create their own domain for their sites.  I have a waiting list of folks who would like to be hosted on this server, some that now want to get off of Rootsweb, or for another reason.

Since instituting this server the only down time I am aware of or notified about has been a few days when they have been performing maintenance.  I've been very thankful for that for everyone.  This hosting does have a limit though.  I can manage over 1M files on this server, but if we get too close to capacity, it could affect all that are housed here.  I'm sure you can understand and appreciate that I do not want any site to suffer.

If your coordinator(s) choose to move from this server, or if you move a county to your server, please advise me when that is completed so I can check that all files have been removed for that county to free up file space, and that you have the site up and running and linked to for your state.

Also, I am adding of my own volition here, that those who are in a state being hosted or managed by Jeff Kemp, y'all have no clue how much money he and I have spent for your and the Project's benefit. I host some of Jeff's accountabilities, and he hosts tons of county sites for coordinators. Y'all should help him with his costs.  This man has done amazing things throughout this entire project. He has designed new state sites at my request, along with tons of banners and entire county sites that are available for adoption throughout his states.  I would love to see members of his states step up to donate to Jeff. He does a ton of work for probably everyone and anyone who asks.  I don't know how he does it, but he does, and he is a BRILLIANT ROCKSTAR in my opinion.  You have no idea how quickly $1-$2-$3 dollar donations help keep your site almost free and online with both Jeff and me. We are here to help the entire Project when we can, but....  what else can I say.  I know many are on limited incomes.  Throw your change in an empty coffee cup and then try to help keep your sites online for next to nothing.  Just sayin....

If I become aware of a coordinator who is not responding to my requests, I will advise the state and/or assistant state coordinator so you can decide what action you would like to institute. I will not just delete the site.  If you have a coordinator who resigns, goes missing, or who you fire and their site is located on my server, I can provide you with access to that county should you wish to maintain it or move the site. Ohio and Texas both have had many sites hosted here and then moved to their servers.  It's a huge job to keep track of all of this and I know I and all state coordinators do that for the love of genealogy..

Also, please be advised, I will not tolerate automatic emails that tell me "please be patient with me, I get hundreds of emails...."  I don't care how many hundreds of emails a coordinator gets, I get them also, and I need to be responsible for managing my own mail, just like everyone else. That is what we signed up for.

[NOTE: If you have sent me an email and I have not responded, please do not hesitate to check back with me. I welcome reminders when I've missed them.]

And if I have hurt anyone's feelings, please note that is not my intention.  My intention is to help keep this Project running as smoothly as possible.

Thank you. Your kind assistance will be much appreciated.

Denise

If you have any counties from Illinois on your server, I am happy to host them since I have unlimited space on my server (an unlimited domain and sub-domain hosting).  Let me know. I am happy to free up space on your server.

Thanks, Sandy.  We do not have any IL counties on this server.
