FYI, while checking for updates for bouncing email addresses this afternoon, encountered the following problems/errors affecting visitor access:

illinoisgenweb.org - offline due to a "Content Encoding Error"

msgw.org/index2.html - "The certificate for www.msgw.org expired on 5/27/2022." The site is accessible, but only with an override in my Firefox browser. The warning may turn away some visitors.

I have been trying to contact Dennis Partridge to get this resolved. He still owns the domain name. I called him again this afternoon and got no response. His phone did not even go to voicemail to allow me to leave him a message. I have also sent him email with no response back.

I have website ready to go but I need him to either transfer ownership of domain name to me or change the current pointer for it. Last possible fix is to change domain name. Cheryl Rothwell registered a couple so we have a backup plan for worse case scenario.

Dennis posted back in late February here several times.

As Mike pointed out a few days ago, life can turn quickly.

Kaspersky gives me "Visiting an untrustworthy website has been prevented" when I try to visit https://www.msgw.org/index2.html

Comes up straightaway using Chrome.  All I get is the bogus not secure message because the URL is not https.  https should be required for sites that collect funds, credit card info - not for sites like ours of just information.

100% agree!  However it is just one more thing they will make everyone adhere to eventually in my opinion.

I paid for SSL certificate on 5/31/22 contacting Web hosting now!

In the future instead of broadcasting to the entire USGenWeb a simple reminder email to the SC would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

My MacBook Air has never had a problem with the site.  Not sure about my PC as I don't have it on most of today, but I don't think I've ever had a problem with it.  Sometimes Firefox is a problem with sites.  I try not to use Google Chrome too much except for my real estate at Keyes generally wants that used because of their platform for their site and resources.

LOL. Dennis' Cook County site popped up with no issues.  However, I did note a couple of others are having issues, but everyone knows those things are over my head.  LOL

Just add https:// instead of http:// for most any website now.  Most have security certificates so they are secure.

All the counties that have transferred to my server work that way now.

I am still waiting on Dennis Partridge to change domain for illinoisgenweb.org to my server since I sent him my two nameservers.  Once he does that, my current site for IL State which is:

https://ilgenweb.whalen-family.org

will become addressable as https://ilinoisgenweb.org

Adding "https:" won't do any good if the site certificate is expired as in the case of msgw.org/index2.html.  Your browser and/or security software will intercept and say something along the lines of this is a dangerous website, etc.

I agree but still good to try using https for all websites now.
