Hi, I'm looking for a permanent fix for the "Could not complete your request because of a program error." error message that I see when opening Photoshop most days. I have found some solutions online that sometimes work and sometimes don't. A solution that works on day doesn't work the next but I continue to get this error message most days.
With this error I'm unable to open files or even close Photoshop, I have to end the task with the task manager. This error only affects Photoshop and the Photoshop Beta apps, but it does not appear on any other Adobe apps.
Solutions I've found in the past have included updating drivers, updating Photoshop, removing the settings folder from the app data files, and reverting to a previous version of Photoshop. More solutions I've found online that haven't been successful for me yet like disabling generator have been unsuccessful but tried regardless. My computer is now running Windows 11, but the problem also happened before I switched. The hardware specs are all above the recommended and there is ample memory available.
@kevin stohlmeyer I double checked my GPU's compatibility within Photoshop in the Help menu > GPU Compatibility, which said it was compatible. I also checked it with PassMark against the recommended 2000 average ops/sec and it was at 3819.
I would check the physical card and make sure its not corrupted or needs to be reseated in the board. Run all the updates you can find on it then try re-enabling it. Unfortunately disabling it happens at the system level so it affects everything.
After working flawlessly ... my Photoshop 2023 install is returning the same error message when I try to open an image file (regardless of what type) or create a new image ... pretty much the program is dead in the water and can only be closed by going to TM and ending the processes ...
GPU is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with Max-Q Design - it is up-to-date and has caused no problems in the past...

If that does not resolve your problems, please provide any additional information about the files that are causing difficulties. I am the engineer responsible for PDF features in Photoshop and am happy to help, but your description doesn't provide enough details to know what may be causing the problems.Best regards,Paul
All of a sudden last night, my Photoshop started up with the "program errors" whenever I tried to create a new document or open any existing one, rendering photoshop completely useless!I've tried deleting the preferences on startup, I've deleted all the Adobe stuff from my user Library folder, and nothing is working! My friend had this same problem on his G5 with 10.4.7, he deleted all adobe stuff off his system, reinstalled, and it still didnt work. The only work around he found was to build a whole new user, which is a pretty expreme thing to do.I'm running 10.4.7, Photoshop 9.0.1 on a MacBookPro
It sounds like I'm having the same problem as the people above. Was there ever a resolution? I need to do some small editing of pdf files, then save as pdf for an agency I'm doing some work for and don't want to buy Acrobat just for this tiny job.Todd
When I select FILEIMPORTEPSON PERFECTION and I briefly see the Epson scanner logo-box and then the error message "Could not complete the import command because of a program error".This worked fine for me through at least version 9.0.1.Note that I have reinstalled the scanner drivers (latest version) and that the scanner works fine with other graphic software ( Paint.net and other windows packages)Any further suggestions appreciated!
I finally solved it by following the directions for "resetting Launch Services", the instructions for which are on this page: This will reset all file associations, unfortunately, but it did solve the problem. Happily OS X makes file associations pretty easy to put back to how you want them.
From Googleing "could not complete your request because of a program error", it appears this problem is common for many Adobe products on both the PC and MAC platforms. No one solution appears to fix it. Odd. Guess I may wait a bit before jumping at CS3.
I could not find a solution to this problem that worked, so I thought I would try to find a solution to a different Adobe problem that I was having. The other problem was that InDesign would not open. An error message said it was missing required fonts. I found a user group that discussed this problem. Here is the link: .Someone in the forum explained that the missing required files are Adobe Application Support files. He gave us a link to download the missing required files and told us where to put the files. I followed his instructions and InDesign immediately worked. (Everyone else had the same results - it worked!)The next day, I opened Photoshop CS2. I had six very large files (over a GB each) and was dreading the inevitable error message. Unbelieveable - it did not appear even once, and I have worked on several files since then, for the past few days. My guess is Photoshop needed the same support files. So, go to the above user group that discusses the InDesign problem. Check to see if you have the required Adobe Application Support files. If not, download his files. There are instructions for PC and Mac as to where to place the files on your computer. Hopefully it will work for you!
