Hello,

I am using StarUML 2.7.0 on Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 4 PC.

The application is crashing fairly often and goes into an unresponsive state.

Here is the output in the Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: StarUML.exe, version: 2.7.0.0, time stamp: 0x5717372d
Faulting module name: libcef.dll, version: 3.2171.1902.0, time stamp: 0x5457c03e
Exception code: 0x80000003

It is not related to a particular .mdj file. The issue is happening randomly at different times.

Is this related to HiDPI support?

Regards,
Ian

Hi,

It's so hard to find problem you experienced because we're not able to reproduce in our systems. We know that sometimes a few users are experiencing the problem. It looks CEF (StarUML is based on) conflicts with some other applications. Somehow we're try to find the reason of the problem. Please let us know if you find any hints to fix it.

Thanks,
StarUML Team

Dear StarUML team,

I am experiencing the same problem on my Surface Pro 4, Windows 10.

I think the key to reproduce the crash is to find a Surface Pro 4 and try it on that machine. As far as I know, there are few High-DPI Win10 devices in the PC market. So this situation may be kind of particular.

Regards,
Chi

Hi,

I have the same problem with my Dell XPS 15 9550 as stated on this thread and nobody answered. It's also a High-DPI device.
Maybe the problem is when we use custom Windows scaling?

Regards,
Thomas

Get the same problem on my Surface Book.

The moment I want to do something on a diagram, the StarUML window looses all its content (just white) and gets unresponsive.

I also tried to reduce the screen resolution to 1400x900 but the problem stays the same. The moment I add a new model element it freezes.

Version 2.3 seems to work on 4k displays.

Tommy I can confirm version 2.3 works flawless on 4K screens but many useful features from new versions are missing... :(

From the changelog of version 2.4 we can see that they messed something up supporting High-DPI Displays :/

v2.4.0 (2015/07/06)

  • Retina (High-DPI) Display Support
  • Shorthands in QuickEdit for Fast Modeling
  • Suppression of Editors
  • Style Editor Improvements (Formatting and Alignment)
  • Sizing Elements Equally
  • UML Improvements (Receptions and Internal Transitions)
  • Resolved Issues
    • Move edge views when the two connected nodes are moving #363
    • Found and Lost Messages in Toolbox #362
    • Shorthands in QuickEdit for Fast Modeling #361
    • Allow to connect Forward/Reverse Message between Lifelines in Communication Diagram #360
    • Support "Reception" element #359
    • "N" Key doesn't work for "Don't Save" in Save Changes Dialog #358
    • Allow Frame in Communication Diagram #357
    • Allow to create messages by drag-n-drop in Communications Diagram #356
    • Menus for Set Size (width, height) Equally (in StyleEditor) #354
    • Add Realization element (other than InterfaceRealization, ComponentRealization) #353
    • Format Icons in StyleEditor #352
    • Allow to suppress StyleEditor, PropertyEditor and DocumentationEditor #351
    • Incorrect icon size of stereotype icons of Lifeline's represents #350
    • Internal Transitions in States #349
    • Guard and iteration expression for Messages #348
    • Retina (High-DPI) Display Support #347

Sincerly,
Thomas Sapelza

Same issue, same context: adding an element to a diagram causes a white-screen crash on my high-DPI laptop (Dell Inspiron 15). Uninstalling until this is resolved, but the product looks promising. I hope the developers can fix it soon.

My current workaround for my Windows 10 Surface Book: Windows 7 installation (which I luckily still had) in a VMBox using a shared folder between the virtual machine and my system. Works well but not ideal.

Hello,

This problem looks a memory problem in Chromium especially in Windows with HDPI display. We've created a test patch which reduced canvas size to reduce memory occupation. It's not a true solution for this problem, but to know why the problem being occurred.

Please try the attached patch and let us know the result.

Patch instruction:
1. Close StarUML
2. Extract the attached test-patch-for-windows-hpdi.zip (You can find two files in zip: "main.js", "main.js.map”)
3. Overwrite the two files in "www" folder in StarUML installed folder. (e.g. “C:\Program Files\StarUML\www”)
4. Restart StarUML

Thanks,
StarUML Team

Hi,

I use a Asus Zenbook Pro N501VW with Windows 10 and a resolution of 3840x2160 and the software crashs too.

With the new patch, I've no longer any crashes after 15 minutes.
Hope it will be a released fix.

Hi guys,
the patch worked fine. Maximizing and restoring the screen is fine now.

This fixed an issue on Mac whereby left clicks on a diagram were causing the diagram to vanish.

This worked for a Yoga 2 pro, also HD screen. Otherwise, I would see just a white screen.

It would be great to have this fixed. In the meantime, if there is a way to let potential users know on the download page, that would save some time trying to figure out what the problem is when the program isn't working.

Thanks.
