Hi,

I am trying to import different xmi files into an evaluation instance of StarUML v5.1.0 installed on macOS Ventura 13.1 and am getting an XMI Import error...... 'A Javascript error occurred in the main process......' See attached screen grab.

I thought initially that the source xmi might be corrupted (Visual Paradigm exporterVersion="7.0.2") however i decided to export a StarUML v5.1.0 project into xmi and attempted to re-import to StarUML and I get the same error message. Incidentally, I am able to import this same xmi file into Visual Paradigm v17  evaluation installed on macOS Ventura 13.1.

Is any configuration needed on StarUML v5.1.0 to support xmi imports?

TIA

Simon

Hello,

As described in the README of XMI extension (https://github.com/staruml/staruml-xmi), XMI is not good way to interchange model data. Tool vendors do not meet the standard specification and use their-own variations and even the specification is also ambiguous.

The combination of tool types, tool versions, UML versions, XMI versions, and non-standard diagram representations makes data exchange difficult via XMI. That's why we open-source the XMI extension. If data conversion is essential, it is necessary to fork the XMI extension's Github repository and you need to modify the source code for the XMI data you have.

Thanks,
StarUML Team

Hi StarUML Team,

We have lift off :). I used this guidance here: https://github.com/staruml/staruml-xmi/issues/16 and managed to successfully import the xmi file.

Thanks again for listening

Simon
