I talked with Pete & David earlier tonight and the topic of a Javascript themed presentation night popped up, again.  We've been talking about it for months and I think we just need to pencil something in and get the ball rolling.

Some topics I'd love to cover
- Javascript toolkits (Dojo, jQuery, Prototype, YUI)
- Serverside Javascript (Jaxer, mod_js)
- JS/JSON DBs (Persevere, CouchDB)
- State of JS Engines (Rhino, SpiderMonkey, Tamarin, V8, Squirrelfish, JScript, etc...)
- Hacks & Techniques (AJAX vs Comet, cross-domain proxies, JSONP)

I'd also like to consider this the first meeting of a Kansas City Javascript Users Group.  I've been thinking about starting one for a while, but never had a catalyst to actually get things going.

So, just to throw a date out there, Wednesday May 20th work?

I really like this idea as well.  I'll be gone on the 20th though.  Anybody like the 27th?

I would be interested to attend the topics you have outlined below Derek.  The number of topics listed deserves a longer presentation time than one night can accommodate.  How about spreading the topics across a few once a month sessions, a weekend, or perhaps a few evenings (6:30 -- 8:30) in a row.

I'm unavailable the 27th.  Pretty much any other day around then works for me though.  19th?

I agree Steven, each single topic (CouchDB, jQuery, AJAX, etc...) is at least 30 minutes each, so all together we have about 6-7 hours to cover.  What if we break it out over a number of consecutive tuesdays from 6-8?

I like the idea of doing it across a bunch of Tuesdays. For those of
us with kids it's hard to do a whole weekend.

The javascript meetup discussion has now spanned across multiple mailing lists, so if all this sounds intresting, go subscribe to the KC JS User Group mailing list at http://groups.google.com/group/kcjug.  We can continue the discussion on date/time/agenda coordination over there.

And yeah, I think Tuesdays work good for me too.  KCRUG meets once a month on Tuesdays, so perhaps we can do a joint meeting night for the talks that Rails peeps are all hot 'n heavy over these days (ie. CouchDB).

I've been posting on the KCJUG list and forgot to send out a reminder here, so don't forget that tonight is the first meeting for KC Javascript at ECJC, 6pm
