Check your local library. Mid-Continent provides a free subscription for anyone who's a member.

They have remote access, you can read from your home computer as long as you have your library card/library card number.

Excellent.  I live downtown, so not sure that I can get a card, but I know enough people in Independence that I shouldn't have much of a problem.  Thanks.
