Hey Class,

We're truly excited to host Veysel Berk, Founder and CEO of Wallit in class tomorrow!

About Veysel and Wallit:

Until now, social networks have focused on people as the main element and took location as a parameter. Wallit turns this paradigm upside down, and focuses on “Location” while using people as parameters.

"Wallit is my mischievous getaway from science.", says Veysel Berk, Founder of Wallit; UC Berkeley post-doctoral fellow under Nobel Laureate Steve Chu, US Secretary of Energy.

Armed with PhD in Physics, regarded by many as the whiz-kid, Veysel's mission is to socialize augmented reality experiences in a way that has not been done before. By capturing people’s sentiments on virtual walls created during the moments they spent there, Wallit’s videos and observations open up, for the first time, the opportunity to preserve location-specific experiences, thus enabling and amplifying self-expression. Whether it’s a shout-out to the 49ers at the Stadium, an “I was here” message at the Eiffel Tower, or a surprise message to a loved one at the Empire State Building, every message is as unique as the location of the wall.

Wallit executive team includes Ozan Eren Bilgen (Chief Architect), an experienced ex-Microsoft software engineer and entrepreneur, Bahadir Bolukbasi (Chief Operating Officer), a Haas MBA alum and ex-Yahoo! manager, and Babur Ozden (Chief Marketing Officer) - a marketing veteran in Silicon Valley Internet and mobile startup scenes and a pioneer in formation of four industry verticals.

Wallit is invested in by prominent Valley ventures and angels from OpenTable, HP, Storm Ventures, TENEX Investment Inc., T&T Capital, Copa Airlines, Orrick Investments, Astar Data, Pocket Gems, DBO Capital, and Bootfish L.L.C.

Mini Assignment:
  • We want you guys to continue to get a flavor for some of the trends and happenings in the tech world, and the best way to do that is to read about it! Go onto TechCrunch, VentureBeat, GigaOm, TheVerge, etc. and read at least 4 blog posts for tomorrow's class. We will be cold-calling people to see what people have been reading up on, so make sure you do it! We are reading this stuff constantly, so you won't be able to BS your way out of it either. It will take around 15 min of your time, so take the time to get it done.
We look forward to an awesome class tomorrow!

Best,
Jeremy and Nish
