6. Concert and New Music Notification Service

- This is a project I worked on for a bit but eventually abandoned.
Basically a user can import the artists they listen to from services
like Last.FM, Grooveshark, and Pandora. They would also be able to
have the site scan their music directory on their computer or mobile
device in case they don't use online services. They then get notified
when those artists are going to have a concert or will be releasing a
new album. It's pretty similar to Songkick (a YC graduate) which is
one problem. From what I can tell Songkick focus more on watching the
lists on various venues and ticket providers sites. I was hoping to
use NLP and other techniques to parse music sites like Pitchfork
without having to custom tailor rules for different services. Also
last I checked Songkick only sends alerts for upcoming concerts
whereas I was hoping to also send notifications when an artist is
going to be releasing a new album. I own the domain name
albumalarm.com. And figured I could make money by providing links to
iTunes, Amazon, etc for the users to easily be able to purchase music.
Some of these services have affiliate programs with in some cases
surprisingly decent rates.
