Hi everyone,

I would like to promote Piper’s character, Banor, from Lt Colonel to full Colonel. It’s an O6 rank so I think I need council permission. Would everyone be cool with me doing this? (Does it need a vote?)

Thanks,

Tabitha

I think that sounds excellent. He has my vote if we need one

Hi Tabitha:

Promotion to O-6 does require a majority council vote. I'll take it as proposed by Tabitha and seconded by Nathan which opens the proposal to a vote.

That said, I have been out of the loop for a while and I don't know which DSs are active and who represents them. That's the first step.

OH1 is inactive
Axel?
Discovery: Caleb, Sam + ?
Prodigy: Tabitha, Piper + ?
S'Task: Drika + ?
Cromwell: Devon + ?

Axel is essentially closed, we're inactive.   However,  I'm still in th group.  I'm pretty sure Kevin is too.  We're CO and XO.   Count me as a yes unless you simply want to leave Axel out because of our status.

Either way works for me.

Prodigy’s player reps are AM and I think David W.

(Is that right guys?)

We need to figure out who sits on council.

There was never a vote to decommission either OH1 nor Axel. I presume their COs and XOs remain on council. No player reps, obviously. We would revert back to the last roll call where those DSs were still active.

I still hold the chair as there was no call for a vote to replace me. I'm not opposed to someone calling that vote but we still to figure out the composition of council if we want to hold an election.

All the above aside, I think Piper should be promoted. We need to decide how closely we follow our own rules.

Or do we take an extraordinary measure of determining the council's composition by who has posted in the last 90 days? And consider those who have not written, to be abandoned positions?

-Richard

Enough people have said yes to the promotion now that we may already have a majority anyway, unless anyone is strongly against it, I don’t really see the point in a formal vote for this although I’m not against one either.

If we are having a vote though, I think we should include Richard, Rich & Kevin. Richard would be voting regardless of OH1s status because he is the chair and deciding the future of OH1 and Axel feels like it should be a seperate discussion.

Rich did ask a few months ago if anyone wanted to take over Axel but no one replied. Maybe it would be worth asking everyone (posting the question to all active DS instead of just the council) just in case there is someone among us interested?

I know Tabitha has 0% patience, so what you could do, Tabitha, is promote Banor as a brevet full colonel, pending Council approval.  (This works especially well if Prodigy is in Gamma quadrant and potentially away from DFA Command communications.)

[What that means in simplified terms, is a field promotion, that if approved (I cannot see how it can be disapproved personally in Banors and Pipers case), can be backdated to the time of the field promotion.]

I have no problem with Piper's advancement, But I do think we should make an official vote by council.  I am encouraged to see Rich, Richard, and others willing to talk and vote.  We are a small group now, isolated from the pbem world until we figure out when and how to reopen applications, and get ourselves moved up into the web search engines to get players.  To disregard how Borderlands has functioned in the past is to splinter the few remaining people.

I would encourage us to take this opportunity to talk, continue the traditions of Borderlands, and vote on Piper's (Banor's) advancement, and maybe get us through this Dry Writing Season.

Good Morning, folks.

Regarding getting our website on line again, I worked on it during the last couple of weekends.

Except for an issue with the form having the SEND button in Portuguese (ENVIAR) due to a stubborn Google Forms, we have a working SITE.

Guys,

Once our STB website is approved, it needs to be publicized and show up in Google’s search engine among the first listed sites. For that, we need to increase the site’s traffic. This can be done collectively: each of us can set our browsers to load the ST:B webpage when opened.

In Firefox, go to Settings (the gear icon), then access the Home page (the link is on the left side of the settings page). Under Home, you can set which pages the browser should open by default. In my case, I load a Google page and the SES S'Task site, so that the DS shows up among the first Google pages.

How does this help? Every time someone opens their browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari), it signals to Google’s search engine that there has been an access to the ST:B page (a “hit”). If you open your browser three times a day, that’s already three hits. By the end of a year, one person generates a thousand hits. Google then interprets that the site is being heavily visited (relevant), and it moves up to become the first non-sponsored site on the search engine results page.

I added an image showing how to do this in Firefox.

While I am known for my lack of patience lol, I don’t mind waiting for this. I wasn’t planning on doing it in-game until after our current adventure anyway (when we have our next awards ceremony). I got this in early expecting it would take time.

I can see reasons why people might be against the character being promoted, but if anyone has a problem with Piper as a person, I’ll fight you lol. Piper has been awesome and is honestly the reason Prodigy is still functioning, because he and AM have taken over a lot of GMing responsibilities when I have been unable to GM. He keeps our DS afloat and that is saying a lot since Prodigy is the most active DS on Borderlands. Wasn’t planning on providing a reason why I think he should be promoted because I thought it was obvious but yeah… that’s the reason.

All that being said, even though I’m not in a massive hurry, if we are doing a vote can we please get that going?

Other conversations (the website, Axel’s status etc.) are very important but really ought to be moved into different threads. Much as it’s nice to see us communicating, I don’t want this getting buried.

Tabitha.

I like your idea, Dev, about a promotion to brevet colonel.

The motion was seconded so this is active before council with no expiry nor deadline.

I'll respond to the thread about council composition separately. That thread should run it's course and then come back this thread.

STB has split at least three times in it's past so we should take every effort to follow our own rules.

In back channel, STSK and CRMB have determined our positions for voting on council at this time.

CRMB
Dev (CO)
Mary (Player Rep)
Nathan (Player Rep)

STSK
Drika (CO)
Randy (Player Rep)

Sorry this took time, response rates are slow, and all are players are co-mingled on both DSs.

Can I call that we vote for Piper's promotion now that council members are delineated?

Thank you Devon.

The current composition of council is:

Chair; Richard (Non-Voting)

Axel: Kevin (CO), Rich (XO), No PRs.

Cromwell; Devon (CO), Mary (PR), Nathan (PR)

Discovery: Celeb (CO), Finley (XO), Sam (PR), Hope (PR)

OH1: Richard (CO; Non-Voting)

Prodigy: Tabitha (CO), Piper (XO), AM (PR), David (PR)

Stask: Drika (CO), Randy (PR)

That is 15 voting members of council; 8 votes required in favour to pass a majority-vote motion.

I'll send the poll.

-Richard

Tabitha tabled a motion to promote Piper to O-6.

Seconded by Nathan.

I don't believe there is any further discussion necessary.

The vote will remain open for 21 days.

If anyone would prefer to cast their vote privately, please message me directly.
