WRITING SAMPLE:
It was the first time Marcus had been involved in any sort of real action with the rebels and though he could feel the tension in his whole body he was determined to do his bit.
His night vision had noted a group of at least forty men slowly making their way toward their location. At this distance it was hard to determine who they were but best guess was a Romulan patrol. They had been sending small scouting parties over the past few days probing the small valley below and having met no resistance they must have thought it was a safe opportunity to push further into rebel territory.
"Alright everyone," their Leader, Tobias Grunwald said, "I want most of you to stay here on the ridge and lay down suppressing fire and keep it going, give them hell. Make them think there are more of us than there are. Marcus and Ruth I want you to head out and try and hit their right flank. Surek and Klang, their left flank."
"Aye Sir." Marcus said cocking his federation rifle, ensuring his Klingon disruptor was tucked in his belt and his Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife was tucked into his boot and then scrambling down under cover of the forest to begin heading toward the enemy.
Suddenly, flashes of phaser fire arced out from the Rebels position and almost immediately there were screams of pain. At least some had found their mark! Instantly they were joined by the green flashes of Romulan disruptors returning fire.
Marcus and Ruth now able to move a bit more quickly with the sound of battle somewhat hiding the sounds of their progress. Settling in a suitable position they too opened fire and seconds later Surek and Klang opened up on the other side. The enemy force was now being decimated and following a few explosions from grenades, the remnants of the force quickly retreated into the dark back from where they had come. The whole exchange had barely lasted five minutes!
Marcus and Ruth smiled and gave each other a hug. "Good job", Marcus said. They then made their way back to the rest of the group finding to their great joy that no one had been killed or injured. Human
