Dear Dr. Wa'Njogu,
Greetings! My name is Maura Walsh and I’m the Group Leadership Manager for World Learning’s Experiment in International Living. I am hiring individuals to lead summer study abroad programs, and several of our programs are in Africa – Botswana, Morocco, South Africa, and Tanzania. I am hoping you might be willing to help me get the word out about our job opportunity to your colleagues through the African Language Teachers Association. Here are some more details…
The Experiment – the founding program of World Learning – sends high school students abroad for immersive study abroad programs around the globe to over 20 countries. My role is to recruit 70-90 exceptional individuals to serve as our international group leaders on 3, 4, & 5-week programs each summer. We look for applicants who have experience:
· Working with young people
· Living and studying abroad, and
· Foreign language competence.
Our leaders are tasked with helping their students integrate into local cultures and host families, conducting group excursions, guiding discussions and scaffolding the learning process, and ensuring students’ safety and wellbeing.
As I mentioned, I am hoping you might be willing to help us to get the word out to your colleagues through the ALTA to promote our group leader opportunity – we’re accepting applications for 2014 group leaders through February 15. I have attached our recruitment flyer, if you are interested in circulating it to any of your colleagues. In addition, if you would be willing to share this post in an upcoming newsletter, that would be very helpful:
Invitation to Apply: The Experiment in International Living is hiring! They are looking for exceptional individuals to lead their immersive summer programs for high school students in 2014. These individuals will lead groups of typically 15 students on programs in over 20 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in intercultural and experiential learning, in-depth experience living abroad, competency in the language of the host culture, and experience working with young people. For more information on becoming a group leader and instructions on how to apply, please visit http://www.experimentinternational.org.
I also noticed that you are a professor at Yale. If you have students (current seniors who will get their degrees by June 2014, or graduate students) who might be a good fit for the group leader opportunity, please feel free to pass along this information to them as well.
I look forward to any other thoughts you may have regarding how to spread the word about our group leader opportunity.
Thanks and best regards,
Maura
