Hello **HUGers,

I am doing a PERL mini course next month on Fridays from 9:30am to 11:00am Pacific Standard Time.  It is happening virtually at the University of British Columbia Vancouver as part of the Polyrhythm Project (I will be physically at Stanford University).  This mini course is based on one I did virtually in 2016 at Louisiana State University.

There are also two prequel classes happening this week and next at the same time: this Friday will be an introduction to the command-line terminal, and next
Friday will be an introduction to the vi editor.

Here is the schedule and links to the slides for each class so you can see what is covered:

* Friday 20 January: Prequel: unix terminal
* Friday 27 January: Prequel: vi text editor
* Friday  3 February: PERL class 1 http://bit.ly/mini-perl-1 (getting started)
* Friday 10 February: PERL class 2 http://bit.ly/mini-perl-2 (arrays, subroutines)
* Friday 17 February: PERL class 3 http://bit.ly/mini-perl-3 (regular expressions)
* Friday 24 February: PERL class 4 http://bit.ly/mini-perl-4 (hashes and data input/output)

There is homework (otherwise you will not learn anything) which we will spend about 30 minutes in the following class to review, and then one hour for new material each class.  No programming experience is required (although the homework should be much easier if you already know how to program).

You can email me at craigsapp at gmail to be added to the mailing list for the class and getting set up with zoom.
