Installation difficulties

Hello **HUG,

I am trying to install all humdrum and humlib tools on my computer and I'm having a hard time with humdrum-tools. I've gone through the instructions on the github repo and the installation seems to go ok but there is no bin folder in the humdrum-tools/humdrum or humdrum-tools/humextra folders. As recommended, I tried make install-hint and it says the installations worked:

amor@Alexanders-MacBook-Air humdrum-tools % make install-hint

*** variable.  Type 'which key' to verify that you can see a

*** program in the humdrum/bin directory.  If the terminal replies with:

***    /Users/amor/Desktop/Code/CUNY/AMPACT/starstarthug/humdrum-tools/humdrum/bin/key

*** then the Humdrum Toolkit is set up properly and ready for use.

*** The humextra command path is configured properly in the PATH environment

*** variable.  Type 'which keycor' to verify that you can see a program in the

*** humextra/bin directory.  If the terminal replies with:

***    /Users/amor/Desktop/Code/CUNY/AMPACT/starstarthug/humdrum-tools/humextra/bin/keycor

*** then Humdrum Extras is set up properly and ready for use.

But then when I do the checks it recommends, the key and keycor programs are not found:

amor@Alexanders-MacBook-Air humdrum-tools % which key
key not found
amor@Alexanders-MacBook-Air humdrum-tools % which keycor
keycor not found

There is no bin folder in either of the humdrum-tools/humdrum/ or humdrum-tools/humextra/ folders. Naturally, all the tests fail since the programs can't be found. This is on a macbook air from 2020 with an m1 chip. Installations aren't my strong suit so any help would be appreciated!

Hi Alex,

"make install-hint" I am not familiar with as a makefile target.

On the webpage: https://github.com/humdrum-tools/humdrum-tools

The commands to download compile and setup for use in the terminal are:

   cd               
   git clone https://github.com/humdrum-tools/humdrum-tools
   cd humdrum-tools 
   make update      
   make            
   make install    

After you type "make install" you should close the terminal and reopen it in order to load the shell script that has the setup variable for Humdrum.   After this point "which key" should report the location of the Humdrum Toolkit key command, and "which keycor" should report the location of the Humdrum Extras keycor command.

So if there is no humdrum-tools/humdrum/bin or humdrum-tools/humextra/bin, then that means either the "make" command was not done (and the commands to do before it such as "make update", or there was some failure (in which case post the error that stopped the compiling).
