Danielle Nia has received the secrets of electricity from those who have gone before - so that we listeners may again know the wonder and discovery of this most innovative field of music. Throughout the collections AMBIENT SESSIONS 1 (36:41) and AMBIENT MODULAR SESSIONS 2 (49:24) we find Danielle experiencing a release of emotions through electronic, sonic expression. The work is cerebrally all-encompassing - with an impressive array of pulsations and sensations riding down a conduit of synthesized sound. Rendering contrasting shades of soft-hued, hypnotic, harmonic tones, boreal dreams and lunar lullabies into an ever-deepening suite of contemplative arrangements and melodic fantasies the tracks unfold energetically - each in a distinctive spirit of the Ambient form. Yet, their structure is more suggested than scripted, and full of enough secret serenities, asymmetries, experiments and fantasies to move our imaginations in completely new directions. With a warm-blooded wiring this patch cord poet connects to a constellation of charged, storied machines - devices meant to set the inner workings of the mind into motion, as they cast their spell of consonance and dissonance in alternating currents and continuous voltages. Entrancing, expanding motifs subtly spin melodic fragments, phases and phrases such that the reiterations come across as novel and new - but also soothingly familiar. Humming with energy and creativity, Danielle Nia fearlessly imagines a future full of freedom and possibility - a new age hopefully within our reach.
