In 2018, SAGE acquired Lean Library, a browser extension and discovery service,[11] which then faced opposition by part of the academic community for being owned by a for-profit, as opposed to open data, open source and non-profit products like Unpaywall which facilitates usage of open access works.[12]
SAGE Publishing was a founding member of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) when it was established in 2008.[13] In November 2013, OASPA reviewed SAGE's membership after the Journal of International Medical Research accepted a false and intentionally flawed paper created and submitted by a reporter for the journal Science as part of a "sting" to test the effectiveness of the peer-review processes of open access journals .mw-parser-output div.crossreferencepadding-left:0(see Who's Afraid of Peer Review?).[14] SAGE's membership was reinstated at the end of the six month review period following changes to the journal's editorial processes.[15]

As of 1 January 2022, the University of Latvia has signed a Read & Publish agreement with SAGE, which means that UL corresponding authors are a subject to a 20% discount when publishing SAGE gold (fully) open access journals, and there is a free publishing option in hybrid open access journals.

Most academic journals now provide RSS Feeds which will send you tables of contents for new issues, or other alerts involving things like most popular articles, or most cited articles. The exact options will differ depending on the journal. You can use the library's Online Journals and Databases tool to locate a particular title, and receive up-to-date contents for the journal. Again, look for either the orange RSS icon, or for links for "Alerts" or "Alerting Services."
ScienceDirect is a multidisciplinary eJournal platform that provides full-text of library-licensed journals from Elsevier and related publishers. Alerts from this database are sent by email only (no RSS feed).
