Importing text file into Starcalc

I just downloaded StarOffice 8 from Googlepack, and am not having much luck
importing an Ascii file exported from an old database on another computer.
The file is delimited with commas, and has a carriage return after each
line. It opens in a trial version of Excel but the trial has expired and I
can't even save it.

Using Starcalc I find that every field in the line goes into A1. Not a
helpful result! What am I doing wrong? Should I use a different delimiting
character, and if so, which one?
