Just wondering if Adabase in StarOffice 6.0 can connect DIRECTLY to a MySQL base, remote or localhost either (apart through ODBC).
The idea is to use StarOffice as a front-end, form designer and reporting tool for MySQL

If not, any known third party product empowering StarOffice 6.0 to do that ? Or any knowledge of this feature incorporated in a coming version of StarOffice ?

Thanks for any answer.

Hi François,

StarOffice can access a wide variety of databases either by native support (for Oracle, DB2, dBase, MS Access 97, Text) or by other databases with an ODBC/JDBC driver.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer further information.

François PASCAL cast thy voice into the fray:

In OpenOffice.org a native interface to MySQL datasources is being or will
probably be developed, maybe it'll find it's way into StarOffice one day.

Since I can connect a form to a database in sql to be able to modify the fields from the form.

Thank you very much for his response.

O.S: SuSE Linux 8.1 Proffesional
Star Office 6.0
MySQL Server Version 3.23.52
MyODBC 2.50.39
----------------------------
I am asked to build a client interface with Star-Office 6.0 and
MySQL data-base.
ODBC:
The ODBC set-up is tested and works correct.
I can select the database in SO and can open it with the
appropriate user and password. The tables and its column types
are reproduced properly.
When updating a row (adding a record in table view,
(edit is enabled), this error message is shown:
[unixODBC][TCX][MyODBC] Column count doesn't match value
count at row. Error inserting new record.
SQL status: HY000 Error code: 1136
It's not possible to update or insert a row.
I have also tried ODBC via libiodbc, but the error is the same.

With further looking:
SO -> Date Source Administration - Data Source - Organize:
The Data source is shown but at trying to activate
Organize this error message occurs:
Could not load the program library libodbc.so or it is
corrupted. The ODBC data source configuration is not available.
? libodbc.so is linked to from a folder which is
in the operating systems PATH environment variable !
----------------------------
With this result i'm afraid that i cannot use StarOffice
in the project because MySQL is not questionned.
Furthermore I cannot imagine that no other user has the
same problem. So my questions are:
Am I doing something wrong ?
Is JDBC working correctly ?
What solutions or bypasses are recommended ?
Truely thanks in advance for any respond,
I am a dedicated SO user but this problem limits its use
and can give preference to other choices in a pioneering project.
Kind regards,
