Hi,

How it is possible to send emails based on database query in SO 6.0? I
am using an external email client and that works OK when sending
documents attached to an email. When I try to create the form letter,
the only options for output I have are Printer and File.

In the dialog box fields for "Subject", "Attachments" and "Mail Format"
are grayed out.

According

http://wwws.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/staroffice_writer.html

it still should be possible, so what have I done wrong?

Ok, please describe to me (step-by-step, if need be) what you are trying
to do, giving me as much information as well as any problems encountered.

Thanks.

OK. I try to be as exact as possible.

1. I have registered a data source based on Adabas database. It is
contact database with names, addresses and email addresses
2. I construct a query based on a database criteria. The query returns
me a list of people.
3. While having a text documet open, I run the query.
4. I click on "Form Letter" in the query results window.
5. I have only options to send the current document to printer or save
it to a file. The email related options Subject, Attachment and mail
format are grayed out.

Hope this explains it little better.

After having done some research for you, StarOffice does not offer the
function you have been describing. I was in contact with the developers,
and I was told that it was going to be a function, but it was dropped at
the last second; hence why the menus exists, but not the functionality.

The article you saw was pre-release, and the information was never
updated. I can only apologise for any inconvenience caused. I was also
told that we do not know if the function will be implemented soon, as it
has been put on hold until further notice.

I am sorry I could not be of help this time round.

Actually the fuctionality does exist within the Java and Mozilla eliments
of StarOffice 6.0, and has been retained in both SO6 and OO 1.0.1.

Ready for the anticipated next phase of StarOffice 6.x Developement - The
Mail Client and Schedule.

As yet, it is undecided as to weather or not to bind the client in as a
intergrated component (SO 5x fame) with the associated xml based
modifications. Or the vaunted seperate Mail/News/Schedule client.

Anyway the whole lot would need SUN ONE binding and intergration, and still
be able to operate in stand alone mode. (A potential nightmare for the
programmers).

Yes, if the mail/news/schedule/contact client is better than SO 5.x people
will be prepared pay a modest fee for it. Particulary if it supports addin
components for expanded CRM and such like.

At the moment StarOffice 5.2 and 5.1 are the only applications available
for the e-mail mail form, mail merge.

Do you have Patch 2 installed? The reason I am asking is that, after
some research, I have found out that this function was disabled with the
installation of Patch 2.

Yes, I have patch 2 installed. Without that the connection to remote
Adabas database did not really work.
