Aaaargh! Why can't I add records to my database?

SO6.0 / Win2k

Connected to ODBC SQL7 database, table appears no problem - I can even
edit the table itself - but I cannot add a record. The little "*"
symbol is grayed out. Also, the "Edit" icon is grayed out in the
"down" position.

I can edit, add, delete records no problem when I connect through
access, so I'm pretty sure it's not some sort of permissions screw.

Any ideas?
