Hi Joseph,

You can go to the following URL to download Adabas:

http://www.Adabas.com/sqlindex.html

Sorry, Aarti, that's the wrong version of Adabas (at www.adabas.com)

Star Office uses its own version of Adabas, v11.02, and it contains additional files not found in the version 11.01 at www.adabas.com. These files integrate Adabas with Star Office.

The one you want is available on the same page from which you downloaded the Star Office installation files (If www.sun.com is working properly!) You should see the list of files for Star Office, and in addition, some documentation files and an installation file for Adabas. Sometimes all these don't show on the page for some odd Sun reason, so try again.

If you got Star Office 5.2 for Windows in English, you want SOA-5_2-GA-BIN-WINDOWS-EN.EXE and put it in with the rest of your installation files so the installer can find it.
Look for the version you want at http://www.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/5.2/get/get.html

If you got Star Office 6.0beta you want soa-6_0-bin-windows-en.exe and you get it from http://www.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/6.0beta/get.html

If you already have Star Office installed, you can run the Adabas installation afterwards, then go to Star Office Setup to add it in as an option.

I just got Star Office 6.0beta, and as usual, Sun has left out some key information on how one uses the stupid thing (Adabas). There seems to be no way to access it from Star Office 6.0beta, which mainly seems to be concerned with Star Office Writer and a silly little address book database, even though it installed Adabas.

If you want an actual useful office suite, get Star Office 5.2, or Microsoft Office, that one is installable and it works.

The misleading feature on the Star Office 5.2 download page is that
Download StarOffice 5.2, Windows, English ( 76.66 MB )
(which relates to SO-5_2-GA-BIN-WINDOWS-EN.EXE)
does not include StarOffice 5.2 Database - as is implied.

So it is necessary , in addition to the above, to
Download StarOffice 5.2 Database (Adabas D), Windows, English ( 11.90 MB )
which relates to SOA-5_2-GA-BIN-WINDOWS-EN.EXE

Similarly if the Player component is required it appears to be necessary to Download StarOffice 5.2 Player, Windows, English ( 6.46 MB ) (which relates to SOP-5_2-GA-BIN-WINDOWS-EN.EXE )

Hi Cheryl,

StarOffice 5.2 will open Starbase files, but it will not create new Starbase files.

You will need a RDBMS like Abadas D/Dbase/Oracle to create Relational Database files.

Hope this helps,
