JDBC and PostgreSQL

I have a PostgreSQL database on my local machine and am trying to create
some forms for managing those tables. I can connect to the database fine
and see all of my data; however, the new record button on the navigation
bar is never active. So I can't insert any data -- the other navigation
buttons are active and I can move around in the data without any problems.
I am the owner of the tables and database so there shouldn't be any
permission problems. Has anyone else had this problem?

If I access other datasources that use the sdbc protocol (and not jdbc),
everything works as expected.
I'd appreciate any help on this. Thanks.
