A few days ago. SO 5.2 stopped starting properly. It got to display the
Splash screen and then just stayed there. No problem I thought, I'll do
"Repair Installation" and everything will be fine.

Having done that, it now starts but displays "Error while opening
configuration file" (rough translation, original message is in German)
everytime I close it and when I change settings ("Tools-Options").

Any idea how to get rid of it? I have checked the permissions on the files
but they seem ok.

Thanks
Michael

Hi Michael,

the error message indicates that the associated CFG file cannot be
written when StarOffice is closed. This situation is probably caused by
a write-protected, damaged file or by missing write access rights in the
network.

Select the menu comand "Tools - Options - Paths" and check the storage
location of the configuration files. Addtionally, please verify that you
own the necessary write permissions for the *.CFG files contained in
that directory.

If this doesn't help, the files are damaged and must be deleted (they
are normally residing in the Config subdirectory) after(!) having closed
all StarOffice programs.

the path should be in the format of:
.../office52/user/config

Let me know if this helps you solve the issue.

All the file and directory permissions looked ok. Deleting soffice.cfg seems
to solve the problem.

Just curious: All my settings seem to be there still - Bookmarks, Paths etc.
What does soffice.cfg do?

Anyway, thanks for the help
Michael
