Additional Infomation to the above thread.
My LInux is RH9.0. Other softwares on my Linux handles Japanese input correctly.

The Japanese input method has two modes. One is 'A' mode, and another is 'KAN' mode. Usually the Japanese input methods moves between the two modes. But when a given roma-ji string was not correct string, the method freezes in 'KAN' mode. I am forced to kill soffice process and loses the work I've done.

Hi,
which Star Office you are using? I have installed this: canna/kinput2/ on a Suse8.2 (German Version) Linux and StarOffice 6.0/6.1
and japanese StarSuite6.1 and have no problems writing Kanji/Hiragana etc.
I'm able to write romaji and correct wrong romaji-input without problems.
