Hi Smitty
I am very sorry to hear that you could not find information on how to
install the StarOffice 6.0 patch. I hope the following will help you:
After downloading the specific patch for your system from
http://sunsolve.sun.com, you should carry out the installation of a file
called "so-6_0-pp3-bin-linux.bin".
Patch Installation Instructions:
--------------------------------
1) Make sure the StarOffice/StarSuite application is closed.
2) Execute the patch installation program by running
so-6_0-pp3-bin-linux.bin
3) You can now restart the StarOffice/StarSuite application.
Special Install Instructions:
-----------------------------
To patch a Network Installation, start the Product Update Installation
Program using the parameter '-patch' [path to network installation].
Before you apply the patch to your Network Installation please set your
umask value to 022 ("umask 022") to apply the patch properly. If you do
not set the umask value to 022, users other than you will not be able to
use the Network Installation after applying the patch.
Special Note:
--------------
There have been incidents where users using certain double byte
characters in their login names or in the path to the tmp/temp directory
could have a problem saving a document. In case you encounter such a
problem, please apply this patch to ensure efficient use of
StarOffice/StarSuite 6.0.
--------------
If you have any more problems in relation to installing the patch,
please let us know.
Thank you very much.

In what directory is that binary? I will need to cd to it.

How do you start the Product Update Installation? And where does the -patch
argument go? Too many vague directions here.
if the files you have downloaded are patchDownload.pl and retrieve.pl,
you do not have the actual patch or the instructions respectively, but
you have downloaded the perl scripts that normally trigger the download
of the actual files. Please retry to download the patch - the correct
file is named 112887-04.tar (unsigned patch) or 112887-04.jar (signed
patch).
The fact that you didnt receive the actual files could have been caused
by your browser falsely downloading the script instead of the file it sends.
After the download has finished, unpack the file (unpack the .tar file
with 'tar xvf 12887-04.tar' and the .jar file with 'unzip
112887-04.jar') and start the patch installation according to the
instructions you find in the Readme file and which were provided by Ms.
Shiraiso (The binary will reside in the directory '12887-04' once you
have unpacked the compressed file you downloaded. The parameter '-patch'
would go right after the binary name in the command prompt, i.e.
'./so-6_0-pp3-bin-linux.bin -patch /opt/staroffice6.0')
I hope this helps

Yes, it did. Thanks, Nils. The perl script was actually the same size as
the patch package, 31.9 mb. I downloaded them in the same manner and saved
them in the same manner, but downloaded the actual patch package a few days
later. I have no explanation for what happened, but it has been righted.
Regards,
Smitty
glad I could help.
The fact that your .pl file had the same size as the patch itself seems
to indicate that you did have the patch but that it had been named .pl
by your Browser when saving it to disk.
Sorry I didn't think of this possibility.
