Hi all,

The Hard Nox 50 is coming up this weekend and we need any help we can get! Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering. Many of our regular helpers cannot make it this weekend, so your help is needed!

John will work one of the road crossings. Last couple of years he was at the CW/ Long Bridge intersection and he is happy with that. Wherever you need him just be sure to let us know by Saturday. He is fine working alone  and fine staying the entire race as long as he is at his vehicle so he can get cool now and then and charge his phone as needed.

I will drive sag/ gofer.  Or whatever as long as that whatever is clearly defined before Sunday morning and doesn't change multiple times.
I will also be around on Saturday. Prefer morning but with a clearly defined job could do afternoon.
Do you want me to pick up a supply of fee envelopes? Are you planting someone at the gate or handing out parking hang tags at packet pickup?

Keep a list with names of all volunteers for the weekend to turn in to FS. Dale said race work can count as volunteer FS hours. A bit of a stretch imop but whatever.

John and I have been talking about course monitors at the road crossings. I know you are real short on help and these thoughts may help.

If I pull the gate around on Noxubee Hill Rd it becomes a closed road and would not require a course monitor anywhere on it for compliance with USAC rules. If you still want monitors in there john suggested that the road crossing at the CW/ Long Bridge intersection may be less critical than the turn down at the bottom of the hill where riders have "missed " seeing the turn arrow more than once. Btw, that turn is better marked this year and I have plans to lay a piece of flagging tape across the road during the race as you suggested.
The turn for loop1 at 3 Bridges/ Rockcrusher intersection can be handled effectively with flagging tape. Block off  Rockcrusher Rd for loop1 and then have the sweeper ( if Lynn) take that tape down and use it to block 3 Bridges for next loop.

On the south end that takes care of if except for the trail crossings on pigeon Roost rd. One of those was never covered last year. One person could almost handle all three spots on PigeonRoost.

Someone at the steel bridge is important. Flagging tape can help block turns but they need multiple changing.
Someone at Rabbits Run/ Beaver Lodge is important unless barricades are available.
Someone on Walker Woods Rd where Splashing Dog enters the woods on loop1 is important for a very short time. Then tape or barricades are fine. A volunteer enroute to another point on the course could handle it. I could for that matter. On loop 2 a person on Choctaw Lake rd to make sure riders find turn onto Splashing Dog is important because that road shouldn't be blocked, barricaded or taped off.

A lot of words to say that you might get by with fewer monitors. Not ideal because you loose touch with riders but if volunteers don't materialize that's the way it works.

I'm feeling somewhat miffed we have club members and members of the riding community who are not helping and who have made plans to be out of town. I also feel that club members should be working instead of racing this event. You give hours and hours and I have given hours and hours and beyond that I see no other real time investment / interest on the part of anyone. Kind of sums up the whole club actually.
