A Florida Department of Transportation official said
Thursday that the agency will erect overhead school
zone signs to replace the ground-mounted signs that
now warn motorists of the restricted speed zone on
Water Street.
Tony Falotico, a D.O.T. traffic operations manager,
said his department does not normally permit an
overhead sign for two-lane roads.
"But with the amount of truck traffic on the highway
and with the speeds they travel, we think the overhead
signal, in this case, is justified," said Mr.
Falotico.
The official said that the ground-mounted flashing
signs now on South Water Street (State Road 100) will
be made available to the city to be used on Colley
Road.
"The work is scheduled for this summer," he added,
"and should be completed by August."
