Lawtey Fire Chief Mike Brown told the city council
Monday night that phase one of the fire station's
expansion project is virtually complete.

"We're about 90% completed," he said. "The first
phase is pretty much, almost there. Hopefully within
two weeks, we'll be able to back our tanker into the
station and get it out of the weather."

The expansion project included adding a wall, putting
on a new roof, and installing new doors. Mr. Brown
said much of the labor and materials were donated,
including one donation from on high.

"We needed 1400 concrete blocks," the chief said to
the council during its April meeting. "The Lord gave
me 1440".

Mr. Brown further explained that the answer to his
prayers came through Florida Rock.

"Florida Rock called me the Friday after our last
meeting," explained Mr. Brown, "and said we're giving
you a semi-load of blocks."
