BLOB stands for Binary Large OBject. A blob is a data type that can store binary data. This is different than most other data types used in databases, such as integers, floating point numbers, characters, and strings, which store letters and numbers. BLOB is a large complex collection of binary data which is stored in Database. Basically BLOB is used to store media files like images, video and audio files. Due to its ability to store multimedia files it takes a huge disk space. Also length of BLOB may go upto 2, 147, 483, 647 characters. BLOB provides fast multimedia transfer.

Base64 encoding is really for transferring binary data when the transfer mechanism expects ascii-encoded data, so there's no benefit in applying this encoding just to write to a file. If you really need to base64-encode your data, use the python's base64 package as Martin Evans recommends in his answer..

When developing locally, make sure that the user account that is accessing blob data has the correct permissions. You'll need Storage Blob Data Contributor to read and write blob data. I just have some proprietary BLOB data (actually LONGVARBINARY) in a MySQL database which I need to unpack. Therefore I would like to put it to a python node.
Is there any proper way to get the binary data as byte array to python?

In my opinion you found the difference between ZServer and Waitress. ZServer channels are based on asynchat and they consume blob file handles on the main thread asyncore loop. Waitress consumes file handle in thread, and that keeps the thread reserved until blob
as been served.
I think that, if blob stream implements wsgi.file_wrapper and the wsgi server implements it good ( reading last rows probably there are space for improvements), the gap between wsgi and zserver in this use case could be filled.
@tschorr Yesterday we wondered, what is the difference between the old ZServer and Waitress so that ZServer does not block when serving blobs, but Waitress does. That was now found to be the difference in "Channel"-implementation.
Yesterday I discovered the Apache X-Sendfile module that a customer has apparently been using for years. It lets Apache send a file, so Plone does not need to handle it anymore. This could be interesting as an alternative to a thread in ZServer/waitress to serve a blob.
The module has not been updated since 2012. Maybe there are alternatives. This is for Apache, but I expect that you can do a similar thing in nginx.
