Before the film's release, the title Seven Pounds was considered a "mystery" which the studio refused to explain. Early trailers for Seven Pounds kept the film's details a mystery. Director Gabriele Muccino explained the intent: "The [audience] will not know exactly what this man is up to." In an interview Will Smith said that the title is a reference to Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, in which a debtor must pay a pound of flesh.[10] In this case, it amounts to seven gifts to seven individuals deemed worthy by Smith's character, to atone for seven deaths he caused.
Variety's film reviewer Todd McCarthy predicted that the movie's climax "will be emotionally devastating for many viewers, perhaps particularly those with serious religious beliefs," and characterized the film as an "endlessly sentimental fable about sacrifice and redemption that aims only at the heart at the expense of the head."[18] A. O. Scott, writing for The New York Times, said that the movie "may be among the most transcendently, eye-poppingly, call-your-friend-ranting-in-the-middle-of-the-night-just-to-go-over-it-one-more-time crazily awful motion pictures ever made."[19]
The red-carpet presentation begins at 6 p.m. and is open to thepublic. Starting at 4 p.m., the first 250 people to bring anon-breakable, non-perishable food item will have the chance toreceive a screening pass to the movie.
are you sure that gross participation means 20% of worldwide 630 mio gross revenue? half of the 630 mios goes to the cinemas, that means there are about 320 mio left. from that amount you have to pay the budget and advertising>150 mio....that means there are about 170 mio left....and if smith got 20% of 630 mio, that is 130 mio....so for the studio und disturbation left 40 mio.....sorry, that makes no sense, no studio-boss takes 40mio and let the star take 145 mio!!!!
In order for Ben to ensure that his remaining body parts (heart and cornea) are given to Emily and Erza, Ben had to establish a will and then assign someone to carry out its details upon the event of his death. This person is generally referred to as an executor.
"An executor is a legal term referring to a person named by the maker of a will or nominated by the testator to carry out the instructions of the will. ... The executor's duties also include disbursing property to the beneficiaries as designated in the will, obtaining information of potential heirs, collecting and arranging for payment of debts of the estate and approving or disapproving creditors' claims."
Seven Pounds is all about the relationships between Ben and these people, especially Emily. Now it will depend on your outlook as to whether this is an emotionally powerful film or sappy and manipulative. The problem with this movie regardless of which of those points of view you ascribe to is that it's just too damned long. It clocks in at two hours and the whole point of the film is the mystery, the reveal and the denoument. The thing is if you have half a brain you'll figure out the "what he's doing" part of the mystery VERY early on - and from there it will seem like it's being dragged out for who the director must assume are the less bright members of the audience.
Once I figured it out the movie seemed to drag on and on, beating us over the head with more and more hints that were no longer needed. Not only is what he is up to obvious, but what will happen between him and Ezra as well. Then there's the issue of Will Smith: He's proven he's a great actor, but two hours of him with basically a look of pain on his face was a bit much to take. Rosario Dawson was trying hard, but I think someone else could have done a better job in the role.
Last year, Smith released his YouTube Originals miniseries, Best Shape of My Life, where the actor documented his weight loss process. In the first episode, he shared a few details about his plan to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks. He also explained why filming his weight loss journey ultimately kept him motivated and focused on his goal.
Smith will play a man who inadvertently falls in love while he's trying to kill himself. There is no suggestion of what the title refers to. Are we missing something? It's definitely not the weight of the human soul, because that weighs 21 gramms, which is a lot less than seven pounds. Maybe he's suicidal because that's all he has left in his bank account, in which case, we sympathise at the end of every month.
Will Smith went viral in 2021 when he posted a shirtless photo of his "dad bod" physique and declared that he was in the worst shape of his life, before committing to losing weight and becoming the fittest version of himself possible. Smith chronicled his fitness journey in a series of social media posts and YouTube videos. And he has just revealed that he ended up losing a total of 30 pounds throughout the entire process, while preparing to play a formerly enslaved man named Peter Smith in the new movie Emancipation.
Since his infamous Academy Awards slap and wife Jada Pinkett Smith's embarrassing revelations about their marriage, insiders claimed Will Smith has turned to comfort food and has reportedly packed on 30 pounds, RadarOnline.com has learned.
I assumed it had to do with him giving something to 7 different people. 7 parts of himself, 7 pounds of flesh essentially. It's a bit biblical with the number 7 being the perfect number, and straight forward at the same time. But that was my take on it.
In the movie "seven pounds" Will Smith's character is responsible for the deaths of seven people in a car accident, one of them being his wife. The whole movie is about him helping seven people in order to pay his debt, and ultimately give his life so another can live. its a real tear-jerker, and is one of his better performances.
Few expect the movie to be a huge hit domestically (factoring in its hefty budget), but Smith will use his enduring appeal overseas to make the movie profitable. Will that be enough to spawn a sequel, er, dynasty?
Smith said his initial goal in January 2021 was to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks after the pandemic had left him in "the worst shape of his life." He started an intensive diet and exercise program, which included daily runs at sunrise, as well as resistance training with weights at least four days a week.
For the film, Will Smith gained nearly 200 pounds. The actor moved to Aspen, Colorado where the air is thinner. Reportedly, he would wake up early and run for five miles. He would then go to the gym for ring work and weight training. In less than four months, he put up 35 pounds of muscle. Muhammad Ali weighed 210 pounds and Will Smith gained weight to match the latter and look like him, for the film.
On the work front, Will Smith will be seen in the films, King Richard. The biographical film is based on the life of a coach of tennis players. Will Smith will be seen as Richard Williams in the film, father and coach of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams. The film will also star Aunjanue Ellis and Jon Bernthal.
Harvey Milk is not the only figure getting the big-screen treatment in the coming weeks. As good as Sean Penn is playing the lead, there are other performers who will be vying for kudos during this award season.
