I have multiple files (same type and same schema) in the same folder and trying to input all the files at once time, then do the same preparation such as select fields for all these files, and finally, export the output for each input file.

To input multiple files, use the wild card syntax in the path, i.e. "c:\temp\*.csv." This will attempt to load all the files. I say attempt because the schema(column name, Type and order) of the files have to be the same to input all the files successfully. In the Input Data tool set Output File Name as Field to be "File Name Only" since your files are all in the same directory. You be able to use the file names to group by as required.

I would suggest starting the process with just 2 files in the subdirectory to get the entire workflow configured and running properly. Limiting the input to just 2 files will make debugging much easier than if you have 100s of files.

Another advantage is that you can assign cpu priorities to different instances.
Making it workable to have one instance do an operation in the backgound with low priority while your active instance is at normal priority.

The active file can be easily changed in the window which is opened by the Worksession command. Open the file which you want to have as the first active file. Then use the Worksession command to attach other files. A window opens Other files can be opened with the Attach button.

To change the active file type Worksession and a window opens. If the file you want to be active is already attached select it and click on the Active button. If the file is not attached then you need to attach it first before making it the active file.

Worksession may have been originally intended for multiple users sharing files, but it is a great tool for single users with complex geometry, or geometry which results in large files such as meshes from scans.

I admit this might lead to some confusion and might be difficult to grasp by the user though.
I also got used to opening multiple instances of rhino, but I suspect this is using more recources (just guessing, no expert)?
Anyway, I just found it an odd behaviour, so no high priority wish for v6.

Thanks everyone, by way of explanation we have a bunch of files that are components of a larger structure, that we are preparing for fabrication, I need to scale all of them and wanted to just open them in one file for that operation.

This is an AutoCAD style holdover and violates basic UI principles in both Windows and OS X. Chrome runs each window as a separate instance, but still unified under a single application UI. I really hope this is addressed in V6!

Hey everyone! I need some assistance with figuring out how to change the permissions on multiple files at once. I recently had to reload my computer, and pulling files back onto my local disk from my SSD is sending me into an error loop of "access denied". I was able to finally get the files back onto my local disk, but all of the files remain inaccessible due to being "locked" behind an administrator that no longer exists on this PC.

The only fix I'm seeing is going into the security properties and selecting a principal for each file. However, there are tens of thousands of files that need to be unlocked via this method, and I'm not seeing any way of changing permissions on multiple files simultaneously. I just don't see this being viable time management, so I'm really hoping someone here has an alternative method for me. Thanks so much!

The simplest way to do it is to perform the same you already did at the root folder level rather than the file level.
While doing it you should enabled inheritance and tick the option for replacing all child objects permission...

Oh my gosh THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I had a file of hundreds of pictures that denied permission and could only change each file one at a time. I KNEW there had to be another way. Thank you thank you thank you!

I have tried above but getting an error message - An error occurred while applying information to drive:\xyz\shared folder \ subfolders Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied. The previous owner of all the files is no longer an active user. Please advise

If you are getting access denied, then that would imply that you do not have administrator access to the file system. Or the file system is corrupt. Is "drive:\xyz\shared folder \ subfolders" a local drive or a mapped network drive?

Thanks for the quick response. I am using my admin account. Yes its mapped network drive. But I am logging into the file server itself to make the changes. I am taking the ownership of hundreds of files one by one. As I need to archive them. But without taking ownership I am unable to move them. they are currently owned by unknown user. I think it shows unknown user as they were owned by my predecessor originally and his account is currently disabled.

I tried using: takeown /d Y /a /r /f c:\Documents\Word Documents and received this error message:C:>takeown /d Y /a /r /f c:\Documents\Word DocumentsERROR: Invalid argument/option - 'Documents'.Type "TAKEOWN /?" for usage.Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks very much!

By following these steps, you should be able to take ownership of the entire photo folder, change the permissions for the folder and its contents, and ensure that you have access to all the photos within it.

Please note that changing security permissions can have implications for the security and privacy of your files, so exercise caution and ensure that you are comfortable with the changes you are making.

I've got a couple prints that don't take very long and was wondering how to load them all in one window. is this possible? every time i try to open them all at one it either tells me only one can be opened or opens multiple windows at once. if it is possible to open multiple files in one window some direction on how to do so would be much appreciated. for reference i am using a windows 8.1 for an operating system. (yes I am aware that the OS is a little out of date)

I seem to recall a bug report on Github regarding Cura wanting to open each file in a separate instance of Cura. The setting "Use a Single Instance of Cura" exists in the preferences. Either I don't understand it's function, or it's wonky.

In an instance of Cura I can use the File Open command and open one after another, or, I can select multiple files and open them together where they will auto-arrange within that instance of Cura. I can also drag multiple files into the Cura workspace.

If Cura is not running, and I select multiple files in File Explorer and select "Open" then I will get multiple instances of Cura and each will have one model in it. That may well be because at that point it is completely a Windows operation and Cura isn't involved yet.

I need to be able to open about 16 JPGs in Chrome all at once, without having to select each one and do Open With. When I select multiple files, the Open With option disappears. How do I make it available with multiple files selected?

Several answers so far have provided decent workarounds, but they're not very flexible when I work on a large variety of files where Open With would be useful. Is there a way to actually do Open With on multiple files?

Update 02/11/22: My best solution so far is to open Chrome on my second monitor (or on half of my main monitor), then have the folder open on my main monitor (or other half) and then double-click each file in quick succession. It's still tedious but so long as I make sure the last Chrome window I clicked on isn't going to appear over the top of the folder when the file opens, it's pretty quick.

Save the below text to a text document name OpenWith.txt and then rename it to OpenWith.reg. You will next double-click to import the new registry settings. Now when you highlight all the applicable JPG files, the Open With option will be available, and it'll open all those with the Google Chrome app.

Note:
Google Chrome shortcut is usually created on the Desktop and/or in the Start Menu folder, when Chrome is installed.
Start Menu folder: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Right-click this shortcut, select Properties, and confirm that the Target field contains no command line options, just the path + file name for Chrome.

You have the Google Chrome shortcut icon, you then have all JPG filez selected in another window beside that, you then drag all those over to the Google Chrome shortcut icon, and all those JPG files will open with Chrome.

I'm not going to suggest a solution in my answer since the best you can do without 3rd-party tools is probably PIMP_JUICE_IT's answer (although that answer is simply adding a new supplemental verb and it has nothing to do with the Windows "Open With" functionality and should be named accordingly).

The "Open With" submenu is implemented as a IContextMenu shell extension and is registered under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers. When you right-click on one or more items in a shell folder the shell looks at various keys under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT to build the menu. Entries under ...\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers are dynamic and execute actual computer code that determines how many menu items to add (if any).

It seems like Microsoft coded the "Open With" extension to only add the submenu when you select a single file, with one exception; multiple shortcuts (.lnk) can be selected and you will still get the submenu (at least on my Windows 8 machine). I'll go out on a limb and say that the shortcut handling is a bug.

I'm guessing the main reason they removed it is; what do you do when the user selects files of different types? However, there is already a precedent for this; you can select files of different types and press enter to open all of them. When you do this the shell just uses the action associated with item that has the focus rectangle.
