A scientist, Dr. Yatinder Khanna, has dedicated 15 years of his life in building a time machine. Sana expresses a wish to time-travel to Mumbai in the year 2050, but she is killed in an accident before her marriage to Karan. Karan wishes to travel back in time and find Sana. Dr. Yatinder, Karan, and Sana's siblings, Rahul and Thea, travel forward in time and reach Mumbai in 2050. They are fascinated by the futuristic Mumbai, with its flying cars, holograms, robots, 200-story buildings and more.

Twists and turns lead to the introduction of Ziesha, the reincarnation of Sana. Ziesha is a popular singer in 2050 who does not remember her past life, but gets flashbacks of it after meeting Karan. Unlike Sana, Ziesha is an arrogant, headstrong and rebellious girl who does not believe in love. She leads a lonely life after the death of her parents, which has embittered her.

Karan and the others find themselves under the threat of the demi-god, Dr. Hoshi. After Karan tells Ziesha he loves her, he is taken away from her by the guards. Ziesha does not believe him when he tells her about his time travel. However, after reading Sana's diary, Ziesha ultimately remembers her past life. Karan returns to her and she declares her love for him and tells him she is Sana. Dr. Hoshi tries to capture Karan because he wants the time machine. After a wild attempt to catch Karan and Ziesha, Hoshi crashes into a nuclear substance truck and dies. Karan goes back to 2008 in the time machine with Ziesha and the rest of his family. Everyone is overjoyed to see their beloved Sana again and Karan proposes to her.[3][4]

The film draws on the story of the 1991 Telugu film Aditya 369; while the Telugu film deals with travel to the past as well as dystopian post-apocalyptic future, Love Story 2050 is exclusively about travelling to a utopian future-city of Mumbai in the year 2050. It is Bollywood's first utopian time travel film.

Priyanka Chopra played a dual role, for which, she had to color her hair twice, once red to portray the girl from the future and then black. The red-haired look was inspired from Baweja's sister, Rowena Baweja's painting, which portrayed women of today and tomorrow. The script of Love Story 2050 inspired her to do the painting.[13]

Initially the film was supposed to release on 21 December 2007 but it got postponed to 4 July 2008 due to extensive post-production work.[citation needed] The premiere was held on 2 July 2008 in London.[15][16][17]

Raja Sen of Rediff.com called the movie "absolutely ridiculous" with "nothing to offer". In reference to Harman Baweja, Sen said "He cannot act. He does not look good. He does not have screen presence".[20]

That same thought occurred to me. That 2050 is too soon for all those things to happen! And I am not surprised that it is a hotch potch of some hollywood movies. What a waste of money, what was the producer thinking!!

Amit, I can see that you wrote a really balanced review. Quite honestly, you tried putting good things , something that other reviews about this movie did not. Every channel and tabloid gave it 1, you gave it 2 reasonably. I have not watche dthe movie, just deduced it.

Also, may be Priyanka died again and again till she was in 2050 incarnation, its hard to find logic in Hindi movies. ? ANd I agree that Harman needs to work on his diction, I was kinda disappointed about it whenever I watched his interviews. Harman as Harman and not Hrithik clone could have done better. Anyway, according to HT< Harman is busy with movies till 2010! So his future is safe so far!

I just cant believe my eyes. Did I actually read a review which claims LS 2050 is average ? I have no idea how I spent my 2+ hrs in the theatre. It was sheer torture and according to me, on par with Tashan. So many mushy mushy dialogues, bad music and BGM, pathetic acting from everyone, irritating kids and robots and an annoying butterfly. To top it all, there is no story at all. I would give it a 1 only for the efforts they took in the SFX.

Special effects -- for that matter the trappings used to embellish a movie -- work only if a movie has a rock-solid base: Content. Unfortunately, LOVE STORY 2050 gives more preference to special effects, while the writing takes a complete backseat.

There's no denying that Harry Baweja's intentions are genuine and noble, but, seriously, did the veteran get carried away by special effects? No doubt, the basic idea sounds interesting and the viewer would love to be a participant in this time-travel film, but what comes across is amateurish.

Given a title like LOVE STORY 2050, the film ought to evoke strong emotions, mainly towards the second hour, when the lead man has a tough time convincing his lady-love. But technical wizardry and VFX dominate this hour, while the emotional moments fail to evoke any reactions. Actually, your heart does not pine for the lovers and that's why this love story hardly creates any impact.

The silver lining is -- you've guessed it -- Harman Baweja. You may compare him with Hrithik Roshan [in terms of looks]. You may find his dialogue delivery similar to that of SRK. But the guy is a lambe race ka ghoda. Ranbir Kapoor now has tough competition. It's Harman Baweja, the new flavor of the season!

Karan [Harman Baweja], a young, spirited, sporty boy lives life off the rules, while Sana [Priyanka Chopra], a petite, shy girl lives life by the rules. Opposites attract... and love blossoms. Karan's uncle, Dr. Yatinder Khanna's [Boman Irani] much developed time machine finally works. Sana expresses her wish to travel ahead in time to Mumbai. But there's an accident...

Mumbai 2050. Flying cars, 200 storey buildings, robots and sky rails have changed the face of Mumbai. Through a series of twists and turns, Karan finds himself separating from his love. Meanwhile, Dr. Yatinder and Karan are under threat from Dr. Hoshi.

You are mesmerized by the initial scenes in LOVE STORY 2050. And it's not the script that hooks and magnetizes you. Harman's skills as an actor and also a gymnast [watch him give the firangs a chase] makes you speechless. Note the cycle chase [wow!] or Harman wooing Priyanka on a roller coaster [superb... you sure have guts, Harman]. The film works in this hour because the chemistry between the lead actors is also piping hot.

Director Harry Baweja is letdown by the script. The idea is exciting, but what comes across is off-putting. Anu Malik's music is tuneful. 'Sach Kehna' and 'Milo Na Milo' stand out, also because Harman's dance movements are exceptional [kudos to the choreographer]. Cinematography [Vijay Arora] is first-rate. Sound quality [Dwarak Warrier] is top class. Dialogues [Mayur Puri] suit the mood of the film. Sets [Omung Kumar] deserve special mention. They're truly imaginative! Special effects are topnotch, matching international standards. Costumes and styling are avant garde.

Harman Baweja has the potential to be a major star, a front-runner. No two opinions on that! He's an exceptional dancer and looks handsome as well. But most importantly, he knows the grammar of acting well. Watch out for this kid! Priyanka Chopra is immensely likable. She suits her part to the T. Boman Irani is efficient. Archana Puransingh is lovable. The kids don't contribute at all.

Of course, pollsters have been wrong before -- no kidding! -- yet it does make intuitive sense that a generation raised in a culture that has seen the reduction of racism, sexism, and every other prejudice but class prejudice would be liberal-minded. And it is a fact that Hillary Clinton received 55 percent of the millennial vote.

Much of the political complexion of the broader Jewish community in 2050 may also depend upon what liberalism itself offers in an incredibly fast-changing culture -- in which technology will redefine the meaning of work, corporations will be more powerful than most nations, people in wealthy countries will have lifespans of two centuries, scientists will be creating new life forms, and climate change will be creating enormous chaos.

Bioengineering, immortality, computer intelligence, including the linking of human consciousness by uploading minds onto computer networks -- these are among the developments that will soon make class distinctions biological, warns Harari:

What might happen once medicine becomes preoccupied with enhancing human abilities? ... The pretensions of the upper classes might soon become an objective reality. . . .What is a spaceship compared to an eternally young cyborg . . . who can share thoughts directly with other beings, whose abilities to focus and remember are a thousand times greater than our own, and who is never angry or sad, but has emotions and desires that we cannot begin to imagine?

So let me try. It seems to me that the human race is actually ripe for some new stories. The nation-state is in perpetual crisis. Race is a story stamped with a swastika. Religions are encrusted with pre-modern superstition that limits their use as centers for ethical guidance in the modern world. Capitalist progress is like a dystopian novel, set on a planet with a warming, warping climate.

The best part of this story is that it is not a fiction. It is affirmed by DNA analysis, which points back to our shared homeland, Africa, and our shared mitochondrial mother. It is testified to by our personal origins, our being born through the blending of people, our being mothered and parented, our being civilized through the efforts of community.
