Well, this was a turn-up for the books.
West had been aboard the King George for just over two weeks, and had just been getting settled into his new role aboard when the storm had hit. Now he was faced with having to face-up to the men and women he'd left behind at Cheyenne Mountain. His feelings were a mix of excitement at seeing a bunch of familiar faces, and dread at having to relive some of those darker memories from that chapter. Most of all he wondered if Colonel Benson or any of the Wildcards would be among those around.
Brigadier Sharpe had recruited him personally to join the British contingent on the King George. He'd actually approached West in person, while the ship was on stopover at Earth. Sharpe had been at Hereford when West had passed selection, and for some reason he remembered the young soldier and had asked him to sign on as Master-at-Arms for the King George. It was a change of pace, certainly, but having some of his countrymen about the place was definitely the most refreshing aspect.
In his new role he'd been summoned to join in on Colonel Carter's briefing. It was normal - if there was anything normal about one of the most legendary Officers in the Stargate Program summoning you to a briefing - but he hadn't expected it to be in front of so many SG teams. Of course the nature of the briefing cleared all that up. And yet the moment came when his blood ran a couple of degrees cooler: she was here, on the King George. Right in front of him. And therein lay a new conundrum for him: to attack or retreat? Hell, he never retreated. Well, almost never.
As a few of the staff dispersed, one or two shot him familiar looks. He ignored them, instead approaching the gaggle that had formed in one area of the room. She was flanked by a giant bodyguard of sorts, but West ignored him too.
He felt his heart thump a little harder as he opened his mouth to speak.
"Hello, Keiko."
