Stephen eyed the two men with rifles trained on him, his steady gaze drifting from one to the other. He had no idea who they were. Special Ops sent from the PLA? Had they finally tracked him down? No, impossible. His cover was deeper than anything ever created, and he had done much of the work on it himself. So if they weren't here for him, were they here for the Stargate itself? An attack on the personnel to cripple the operation? It didn't matter at this point. What did matter was that he was unarmed, and they had their rifles raised and ready. And then the stroke of luck he needed: two more entered the room. The slight shift of his assailant's eyes gave him all the opportunity he needed. A snap kick, knocking the first one's weapon aside, a slide behind him, locking him in a choke hold with one arm, his other gripping his opponent's weapon hand. Now just a bit more luck...

Sasha rounded the corner, a smooth, practiced motion that caught the unidentified intruder off guard. In another motion, the enemy was disarmed, then slammed into the stone wall. Stupid grunt didn't have the strap on his weapon. A quick series of blows, and the intruder slumped to the ground. That was two down now, but Sasha still had no idea who they were, or where they had come from. Then he heard the sound of fighting coming from up ahead, drew his sidearm and knife, and advanced toward it. He needed to find Lucy, to make sure she was okay. But those were other SGC personnel up there, and they probably could use his help.

Lucy leaned over the statue in her hands, carefully cushioning it with her gloved fingers.  There was every possibility that this figure, with it's pudgy body and oversize head was just a paperweight some bureaucrat kept on his desk. On the other hand it might be the most important object of an ancient religion and just the very thought fascinated her.  Lucy yawned and then pulled off her headphones, "Time for a break," she muttered.  She immediately noticed what sounded like gunfire in the distance but before she had time to investigate a dark shadowy figure crossed in front of her vision.  Lucy grabbed the statue without thinking and swung it at the stranger connecting with what she thought was the side of his head.  The man slumped to the floor followed by the now cracked statue.  Sucking in a breath she realized its fate.  "I broke it!"  She pouted.

Sasha drove his heel down, snapping the knee of the first attacker he saw.  He didn't know the Asian kid they had their rifles trained on, but his Army uniform showed him as a friendly.  In a flash, his knife arm went around the assailant's neck, a solid chokehold, his other arm firing off a double-tap with his sidearm at the next two.  Center mass, the shots should have dropped them, but apparently they had some light body armor, as they merely cried out and stumbled backwards.  Damn.  Time for something else, then.

Stephen didn't know the man in the suit, but he was grateful for his arrival.  In the flurry of action following, he disarmed another attacker, swiftly dropping him with a flurry of kicks and strikes even as his new-found ally shot two others.  When they didn't drop, Stephen engaged one in hand to hand, noting out of the corner of his vision that his ally did the same with the final.  One, two, three more strikes, and a final gunshot, and the fight was over, each of the enemies lying in crumpled heaps on the ground.

"Nice moves, kid," Sasha said, nodding to Stephen.  "I'm Sasha, nice to meet you.  Give me a hand finding someone? If the rest of the base is like this, I'm going to need some help."  He held out his hand.

"Of course," Stephen replied, shaking his hand.  "Second Lieutenant Zhu, Stephen. Let's go find our friend."

"Now what the hell am I supposed to do?"  Lucy murmured as she tied the man to her desk with some box straps left over from the last shipment of artifacts.  She was no soldier and she also had no idea what had happened, who these intruders were or even where they might be on the base.  The training she'd been given hadn't covered this.  She knew Sasha would be looking for her when he got the chance so maybe the best thing to do was to just sit tight and make sure no one else tried to break into her office.  "I am so going to need chocolate after this."

"A bear?" Stephen asked, almost incredulous, as he knocked out another bad guy.  "Right there, staring you down?" Sasha nodded, dropping another of his own with a combination of strikes.  They had been heading to Lucy's office, Sasha fairly certain she would have remained there so he could find her.  Swapping quick stories about non-classified missions and actions they had been on before the SGC.  "Wow.  But it would have been more impressive if you had karate chopped it.  You should tell it that way next time."  They both chuckled, rounding the last corner and finding it clear.

"Well, this is it," Sasha said.  "Thanks for the help, kiddo.  Now let's see if Lucy's in here, or if she's wandered off." As she's prone to do, Sasha said to himself with a fond smile.  He knocked three times, then twice, then three, the signal he had set with her for identification and 'all clear'. They had one for 'danger', too. Just in case. "Lucy, it's Sasha.  Are you in there?  I wanted to see if you wanted to join me for chow." Stephen gave him a questioning look, and then smiled.  Yeah, they were getting along just fine, he thought.

"Chow?"  Lucy whispered to herself wondering if he'd taken a bump on the head.  She opened the door not wanting to release the breath in her chest until she'd seen for sure that it was him.  "It's about time," she answered.  "I had to improvise,"  she pointed to the man tied to her desk when she suddenly realized there was someone with Sasha.  She felt herself tense up a little bit.  "Oh, sorry.  I'm Lucy," tentatively she stuck out her hand.  "My office doesn't normally look like this.  I also don't normally hit people over the head with priceless sculptures."
"Hey, baby," Sasha said, taking Lucy into a bearhug.  "I was worried about you.  But here you are, safe and sound. I'm proud of you."

"There's got to be a joke there," Stephen said with a grin as he surveyed the disheveled office, the man tied up, and the broken statue.  "Something about a getting ahead in the world or something." He shrugged, offering his hand to Lucy to shake.  "It's a pleasure, madam."  He looked over his shoulder, down the corridor.  "So, shall we get out of here? I've got a bad feeling about sticking around too long."

Lucy nodded wholeheartedly.  "Anyone have any idea what's going on?"
