Some time ago after complaining about the challenges of getting audio (and specifically MIDI) working under Kubuntu, someone happened to suggest taking a look at Ubuntu Studio - a distribution of Ubuntu specifically aimed towards creative folks.
When the time came to rebuild my desktop machine with a new SSD (byebye my last spinny drive!) I decided to take a chance and go for Ubuntu Studio. Having been a 10+ year Kubuntu user I was somewhat apprehensive!

On the surface, everything seemed to be working a hundred times better than I had it working in Kubuntu. Later I found an issue with headphone switching which led me to change from JACK to Pipewire, which you can read in my blog, but other than that, everything is running absolutely perfectly!
In the past there has been no live version available of Ubuntu Studio, and no graphical installer. Since the 12.04 release, Ubuntu Studio has been available as a Live DVD.[10] The disk image is about 1.8 GB, too large to fit on a standard CD, and as a result the recommended installation medium for Ubuntu Studio is a DVD or USB flash drive. Ubuntu Studio can also be installed on a pre-existing Ubuntu installation by installing the "ubuntustudio-desktop" package from Advanced Packaging Tool.
I can run studio.sh from the shell and it opens just fine. I can't run it by clicking on it. It just pauses like it's loading and then does nothing. Similarly, a desktop shortcut I created pauses and then does nothing.
I rm'd /.android, /.AndroidStudio, and the entire android-studio folder. I unpacked it again and tried again. It did some setup again, but still only works from the shell. It only works from the shell.
I've installed open R studio server on an Ubuntu computer. While physically at this computer, I can go to a web browser and access R studio server. However, I'm having trouble accessing it remotely from other computers. I've done the following:
Under "switch user" I was able to manually type in ubuntu-studio as the user with a blank password , which it apparently briefly accepted but it immediately caused the system to load for a long time and hang.
Install Azure Data Studio for Windows. Then, use the azuredatastudio command in a Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) terminal just as you would in a standard command prompt. By default, the application is stored in your AppData folder.
