I have not been able to get Splashtop-streamer to work properly. Installed from ARU, and it worked the first time, I was able to setup the account, etc. After that icon would bounce for a wile and quit with nothing happening.
So I tried to launch it manualy from a terminal using the command borrowed from the .desktop file in /opt/splashtop-streamer:
I've been having similar problems as the OP here. I've installed NetworkManager, using XFCE4, Gnome and KDE and I've still been unable to get Splashtop-Streamer, specifically SRFeature, to not crash when I attempt to connect. Is there something I'm missing or has something been updated that's no longer making this feasible? I've had this work still on Ubuntu but I really dislike my system's performance on that
STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
Can you please show me a screen shot of it. Also please restart the computer, then run FRST again and make sure you place a checkmark in the Additions.txt check box and post back both new logs as an attachment.
Here you go...I assumed you wanted a screenshot with the splashtop streamer on there. There is no uminstall in control panel programs nor through the program itself. Crapware which I have no clue got on my computer.
Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.
Please review the following website and read it before continuing and then do a Hard Reset back to Factory Defaults for your router.
This information is only for resetting the router DO NOT erase, install, or update the firmware, just reset your router to factory defaults.
Please visit each of the following sites and let's reset all of your browsers back to defaults to prevent unexpected issues.
If you are not using one of the browsers but it is installed then you may want to consider uninstalling it as older versions of some software can pose an increase in the potential for an infection to get in.
Ok I followed all your steps. First of all, Splashtop was still on my desktop but did not load automatically. I finally had the ability to go into programs and uninstall it normally. It never let me do that before. Thank you for that. However, I still am plagued by the popups and redirects. I get this a popup with this address on a separate webpage when i go to a variety of different websites. Here is an example when I go to ESPN.com. The popup page has a list of 3 messages. When I go to highlight them to copy and paste here it redirects me to other popups with ads.....
Yep, just once again confirms my dislike of that browser. Okay, save/export your bookmarks to a location outside of the Chrome folder structure. Then once again, make sure you have disabled Chrome sync. If it is not disabled this problem will return 100% guaranteed.
Once that is done, then go into Control Panel, Programs, Add/Remove and uninstall Chrome. Then restart the computer. Run a new FRST scan and make sure you place a check mark on the Additions.txt check box and post back both new logs and I'll help you remove a few other Chrome items the uninstaller does not remove.
Thank you! How is this happening only within the Chrome browser? Its not infecting my computer, just the Chrome Browser? Will I be able to use Chrome normally again after we have implemented all of your fixes? Why do I need sync off? Where is this malware lurking exactly? Thanks so much!!
Chrome is your default browser and you came in contact with some site or advertisement more than likely, that inserted itself as a change. Sync keeps most of your settings so they can be shared across devices and why it needs to be disabled. Somewhere within the settings of Chrome is where it's located. I gave you instruction on how to reset Chrome, but wherever it's set in there most users can't seem to find and remove. I don't use Chrome myself as I just don't like it, this issue is one of the reasons. Most users are able to clean IE, Edge, Firefox but not Chrome without a full removal and reinstall.
I did stop sync, reset my computer, and Un installed Chrome before I ran frst....also besides the redirects the more annoying this were the unwanted pop-ups which oftentimes wouldnt let me go to certain sites because crap would keep popping up.
I'm trying to start the program 10 seconds into the boot of Ubuntu. When I use simply sleep 10; python /opt/splashtop-streamer/SRStreamer.pyc the application does not start. When I use sh -c sleep 10; python /opt/splashtop-streamer/SRStreamer.pyc the application comes up with the error message that another copy is already running, I click okay and it quits.
The primary issue is on Mojave OSX since it was not required before and on Catalina the end user needs to enable Screen Recording settings in Privacy without requirement to have admin rights on the MAC computer. (not ideal but manageable)
Meraki support has been silent with my ticket beside referring me to an old article which is not usable for my situation and not even for meraki remote tool.( _and_Settings/Privacy_Preferences_Policy_Control_(PPPC)_...)
I have used a utility called PPPC Utility in the past that allows you to create profiles that can be deployed. I have made two profiles with this app so far deploying one for Teamviewer as it requires accessibility to be able to remotely control another users computer and one for our backup software so that it can backup what Apple considers personal files i.e. pictures folder.
And yes at this point my plan is to move away from meraki and switch back to JAMF as soon as I can unfortunately to switch MDM requires me to physically touch the devices initially and that is not going to be available for some time.
I have enabled "Accessibility" in Privacy Preferences Policy Control (PPPC) for several other macOS applications with Systems Manager created PPPC profiles, and I may be able to assist. There are definitely some quirks about enabling/disabling PPPC settings via MDM profiles, but as long as Splashtop application is asking the macOS system for this permission correctly we should be able to enable this permission through a Systems Manager created PPPC profile.
The third party tools mentioned could work to generate a custom .mobileconfig where it can then be push it down to macOS devices as a custom profile via Systems Manager: _and_Settings/Using_Custom_Apple_Profiles_with_Systems_M...
I was able to get this to work via Systems Manager, and your setup for com.splashtop.Splashtop-Streamer may actually be working too. I believe you may be confused by the macOS System Preferences UI, which is not a good representation for the actual PPPC settings on macOS (let me explain this a bit).
"Accessibility" allows you to control the user's screen (control the mouse movement, specifically, with Splashtop). With this^ PPPC profile scoped to a macOS device who has com.splashtop.Splashtop-Streamer installed, I am able to control the user's screen without needing to have the end user enable "Accessibility" for "Splashtop Streamer" in System Preferences. However, if you look at the macOS System Preferences UI, you will notice the checkmark is still unchecked (this is normal!):
To further confirm the MDM PPPC profile is working: as soon as I remove the PPPC profile and restart the Splashtop app, I cannot control the user's screen anymore. Once I rescope the MDM PPPC profile again, I can control the screen's mouse movements again. This is working as designed, and the Systems Manager PPPC profile is actually enabling com.splashtop.Splashtop-Streamer, despite it being unchecked in macOS Systems Preferences.
These are some of the quirks with PPPC via MDM on macOS Catalina right now, but it is the behavior all MDMs are facing. The Systems Manager profile is actually working to enable Accessibility for com.splashtop.Splashtop-Streamer, at least in my quick repro.
Would love to see future integration with Splashtop Streamer. This would allow secure access to your device from anywhere, and access to the controlled computer - even if through a web browser on the device pointing to itself.
Splashtop is a utility like GoToMyPC. It's kind of a software remote management utility. Gives you total control over the downstream computer from anywhere. But to use it requires installation of the streamer client on the host machine, where as using a KVM does not. So installing the software on the KVM switch removes the need for installation on the host computer. I achieve the same thing now by installing it on a windows appliance and using that to access TinyPilot. I could do away with the windows appliance if the solution could run on the TinyPilot directly. Hope that all makes sense. :)
I am one of the first users of Splashtop (Remote Control Software) when it first came out. It was the most awesome remote access tool I've ever used. Loved it more than log me in. I currently have a 250 user license. Never had a complaint.
In the last 30 days or so, many of my clients are calling me experiencing slow network connection with the amber colored bar across the top of their screen. The screen would lock up and you would have to disconnect and reconnect. Then after a few minutes it all happens again. I have been experiencing the same issue as my clients. I have used two different laptops running Splashtop business app trying to connect to a PC or server. They will have the same issue.
