Lassois the upcoming tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. It is scheduled to be released in September 2024, through Interscope Records and Polydor Records. The album is set to mark the first country project by the singer.[1][2]
Based on her previous works, Lana Del Rey has been labeled an "alt-pop"[3] or alternative pop artist by critics.[4] She believed that after her 2019 album Norman Fucking Rockwell!, things took a "huge turn"; she feared that she would be "scared into making safe choices" and decided to take "cool-off"s after releases to "reevaluate things".[5] In November 2020, Del Rey considered releasing "a digital record of American standards and classics for Christmas" but ended up not doing so.[1]
For the remainder of the year, Del Rey decided to test "the country waters" by performing a cover of "Stand by Your Man" in September, a rendition of "Unchained Melody" in November and releasing a cover version of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" in December.[6] During a speech at the NMPA Songwriter Awards on January 31, 2024, Del Rey paid tribute to long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff and announced that they would be "going country" for her next musical endeavor, spurred by numerous commercially successful mainstream releases in 2023.[7] The change of genres would mark a significant departure from predominantly alternative pop musical output.[8] The singer also announced the title to be Lasso and that it is slated for release in September 2024.[9]
In an October 2021 Instagram livestream, Del Rey responded to a comment about her delayed covers album, to which she replied that it was "still in existence". She then explained that she may consider making that album "covers plus country", further explaining her interest in something to the likes of "country and western" and "country and Cali".[2]
Instrumentalist Will Allison and audio engineers Chase Brandon and Colin Lott recorded 3-4 songs together with Del Rey at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, over a three-day period in late July 2023.[4]
"If you can't already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We're going country. It's happening. That's why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years."
At the 2024 Ivor Novellos on May 24, 2024, Del Rey said in an interview with NME that she has "no idea now" what direction Lasso will take. Lyrically it will be more easy and fun, less self-revealing than her previous three albums, with Del Rey describing Lasso as more "melodic & American Songbook Style" in nature. She also considered riding horses on stage.[6]
I can see the album being delayed past September but I really do think that this album is going to be released. With her current love of country and the fact that she decided to announce it in a more professional space compared to just on IG I think Lasso will definitely be LDR10.
yeah it seems like the album isn't finished and September only gives her like 3-4 months MAX to get everything in order I think her announcing September was something she just did randomly in the heat of being on stage in front of a lot of industry people but im ready for the shitshow when September rolls around and its COCC all over again where we get a vid of her apologizing and giving us crumbs showing us she's actually working I saw someone on twitter be like "gUyS lAnA sAiD rIdE aNd ViDeO gAmEs WeRe CoUnTrY" and like gurl... lets be so fr thats not what she means when the albums called fucking Lasso like cope with it were going country im praying for a Dolly collab that would be very exciting and another Legend to cosign her discography like yupppppp
pls the way I'm still calling it LDRX... idk how to feel about Lasso anytime I think of that word since this morning my brain conjures the image of a mango lassi for some reason, it's making it hard to envision a vibe as an album title
Lana Del Rey has lifted the lid on her next album, revealing that her 10th studio album will mark a change in sound. Speaking at a pre-Grammy event hosted by Billboard in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, Del Rey said she is working on a country album, aptly titled Lasso, and plans to release in September of this year.
For a couple of weeks now, my lasso tool only selects with straight lines. It's incredibly unpractical.
Pressing Option doesn't change a thing. (I found some advice about doing this to add a straight line to a hand-drawn selection)
It's not using the polygonal lasso symbol when doing so. It's still the basic lasso symbol, but there's a little straight line I never saw before under it.
I updated the program. I restarted it and my computer multiple times too.
The album, tentatively entitled "Lasso," will be her fourth album in four years and her sixth audio project with Antonoff since 2018. The multiple-time Grammy winner's Nashville-related bona fides include work with The Chicks and Taylor Swift.
About a Sept. 2023 appearance at suburban Nashville's FirstBank Amphitheater, The Tennessean noted Del Rey "waltzed onto the stage in a white flowing dress and cowboy boots," then, mid-show, stated the following:
"Even though we had Nikki Lane, my favorite singer, open here with all her amazing outlaw country, we still want to do one of my favorite standards, that's [Tammy Wynette's 1968 classic] 'Stand By Your Man.'"
Dating back to her foundational days as Lizzie Grant, she covered Skeeter Davis' 1962 hit "The End of the World" and Donna Fargo's 1972 classic "The Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A." Alongside "Stand By Your Man," recent years have seen Del Ray cover John Denver's 1974-released "Take Me Home, Country Roads."

Lana announced the news to the audience at Billboard's pre-Grammy event in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. "If you can't already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We're going country. It's happening," the singer said from the dais at the Billboard Power 100 Party 2024.
"That's why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years," she said while paying tribute to Jack Antonoff, who won the Producer of the Year Grammy on Wednesday for three consecutive years.
Notably, with this win, Jack Antonoff has become the owner of eight Grammys in totality. Antonoff has a chance of bagging six more awards to add to his collection at the 66th annual Grammys, set for this Sunday, February 4 in LA, where his work on "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd" and Taylor Swift's "Midnights" are up for several honours.
