Hey all! Afreez from MangDang wanted me to let you guys know about the release of their Pupper spin-off called
Mini Pupper. It's a great little robot!
Afreez has been updating me on the progress of this project for a while now, and has incorporated a bunch of my feedback into the project. Not only that, he's also addressed the main pain points of the Stanford Pupper project, mainly the hardware assembly and troublesome software bring-up on the Raspberry Pi. It's got a bunch of cool new features too like a proper on/off switch, a low-battery alarm, a LCD panel for a face, and a compact leg linkage.
To be completely fair, Mini Pupper is quite mini and not as fast as Stanford Pupper, so that could be a downside for some people. But if you're in it for the education value I think it'd be a cool robot to build instead of Stanford Pupper. While I love Stanford Pupper, I/we haven't been able to keep up with community feedback as much as we would have liked. I think it's great that MangDang can sell these kits to support the community.
Best,
Nathan (Stanford Student Robotics, Pupper creator etc)
