"This tutorial will be showing you how to install SeaMonkey on Ubuntu 16.04. SeaMonkey, formerly known as Mozilla Suite, is an open-source, community-driven Internet application suite. The latest stable release is SeaMonkey 2.46 at the time of this writing." -to-install-seamonkey-on-ubuntu-16-04

That doesn't mean we don't need an even bigger group of developers working on the product or taking responsibilities of certain areas in the project. We also need people doing QA and regular testing on our product. The development community of SeaMonkey is structured into project areas which cover different parts of the SeaMonkey project. Many of those still need help from more developers; if you want to lend us a hand there, please contact seamonke...@mozilla.org.

In answer to your question....
"Are you saying you can't use shortcuts for newtab (ctrl+t) or new window(ctrl+w)? "

The ctrl+t works for opening another tab in an open SM window. As far as ctrl+w it closes any open window in the task bar, gone, deleted.

I tried changing settings in the preferences without any change to my original function of right clicking the SM icon in the task bar.

I have been and still am using the SM modern.

Most of the tabbed browsing info in the help menu is about tabs how to. Nothing about new windows.

A side note. When I started up my computer this am I received an email from WBBS with a link to an answer to my post, the time was 1:07 am. I went to my post via the link and there was no post. Can posts be retracted?

Is there a way to include a screen shot to show you what I am talking about?

Also how do I include quotes from your reply other then what I did, copy and paste?

Thank you TRoof troof,#32011/08/31goddez1InactiveJoined:2002/01/12Messages:2,975Likes Received:49 Old issue, nuisance or bug (May be with older versions, unsure):
ctrl+w is suppose to close tab.
ctrl+shift+w is suppose to close window.
"If user only has "1 tab" or "no tab" open and uses ctrl+w to open new browser window SeaMonkey will exit all together.

Dang it......try ctrl+N instead of ctrl+w. Mistaken "key combo shortcut" may be my error. How or why I did this is mute point. I think I just read shortcut from a google hit and didn't double check or think twice about it. My deepest apology.

Will answer other questions in a bit. Time strained and this is a hit and run.

Just to clarify, which version of Seamonkey are you running now?

----------How to post or attach screenshots-----------------------

Some privilages and board goodies are available to subscribed members only. Posting attachments is one of these. See:
=vb3_reading_posting#faq_vb3_attachments

Attachments are tough but screen shots may be do-able.

Two ways to post screen shots:
1> Become a contributing member.

2>Can you take a screen shot of problem, then go to any free image hosting site.
Here are some examples:
(registration required)
(registration not required)

At most image hosting sites, you will need to register to use. After you have registered you can then upload files that can be shared on boards like these. Typically, once uploaded, you will need to click the small version of your own photo to locate the code (url) you will need to use.

Once found, you include, by copyNpaste, the url, (pointing and linked to your file) within your post here.

--*NOTE*----------
Apparently there is a process to do this via Picassa or yourtube, maybe even facebook. If so the learning to-dos is up to you. Having drunk the google kool-aide.... "google sees and knows all ".

--------How to quote text----------------------------
Really feel like a dummy now. I dunno. I, myself, have always used copy and paste then highlighted it and used the thread tool for quote ubb code. It works for me. Last edited: 2011/08/31Anngoddez1,#42011/08/31troofWell-Known MemberThread StarterJoined:2002/02/10Messages:170Likes Received:0 I too know the value of time and time constraints. Believe me the issue I am having with SM in my task bar is not high on my list of things I need to get done ASAP. So do not feel bad about delayed responses.

The version of SM I am using at the moment is 2.2.

Thank you for the screen shot info. Will give it a try at some point. I guess I too will use C&P for quotes until I get that figured out.

I have one question of you regarding my original question. When you have a SM window in you task bar and you right click it what are the choices presented?

Mine are only a SM icon which will open a new SM window, next is Unplug this program from taskbar, and lastly close window. What I was hoping to get back were the choices of ... Open in new window, Open in new tab.....Unpin from task bar...and lastly Close window.

Have you ever encountered the last four choices in any version of SM?

Thanks, TRoof troof,#52011/08/31goddez1InactiveJoined:2002/01/12Messages:2,975Likes Received:49 -images/38/seamonkeycontext.png/

Salt into your wound but this is what I get.

-----------My preference settings-------------

and last but not least just updated Seamonkey today to 2.3.1. Nothing to do with current issue just F.Y.I. I was not experiencing your problem but always update as a matter of habit. Last edited: 2011/08/31Anngoddez1,#62011/08/31troofWell-Known MemberThread StarterJoined:2002/02/10Messages:170Likes Received:0 Ouch! How did you end up with the other two groups? (frequent and tasks) The one I seem to have lost just had the tasks without the heading, included in the right click pop up. Are you using SM 2.3? Maybe I should try it again. troof,#72011/08/31goddez1InactiveJoined:2002/01/12Messages:2,975Likes Received:49 I just noticed something while goofing around with this. If I unpinned from SeaMonkey from taskbar and then went into startmenu>all programs>SeaMonkey and chose to repin the shortcut, I lost rightclick context as I had previously. I chose to unpin this. Yuk!
>Opened browser and then
>right clicked on the task icon as a it sat on taskbar.
>selected " Pin to taskbar" from that.
>wala! Context is once again as it should be or expected.

NOTE* This list is really called a "jumplist ".

---------------------------------
Dang it.....after closing this the darn thing it now always wants to open in safemode. I had to check the properties and remove the switch -safemode that was at the tail end of the target typein field
and then enable all extensions and addons.

Not sure why this happened but fixing it this way worked.

---------------------------------------
Where did you? Did I lose you? If you need detailed instructions on what I did and how I did it, I will provide the information, just ask. These are only shortcuts after all. Nothing harmful that can't be undone. Last edited: 2011/09/01Anngoddez1,#82011/09/01troofWell-Known MemberThread StarterJoined:2002/02/10Messages:170Likes Received:0 Hello again. Pardon my lapse. I had some pressing matters to tend to. I did try all the things you mentioned.

>Opened browser and then
>right clicked on the task icon as a it sat on taskbar.
>selected " Pin to taskbar" from that.
>wala! Context is once again as it should be or expected.Click to expand... No change. It always ends up the same. ie. Right click on SM icon and the SM icon (if clicked opens a new SM window) and unpin and close. No jump list at all.

Not sure why this happened but fixing it this way worked.Click to expand...Where is this found? The only safe mode I found was in the program list in the SM folder.
Did not find any safe mode in properties.

I also upgraded to SM2.3.1 and went through the above steps that you outlined with the same results I have been having. I really must be missing something. How could it be so different?

Not sure if it matters but I am using a Dell Studio,W7pro 64

I think computers are like people, no two are alike.

Figured out the quotes thing. At the top of the reply window click the quote box after selecting the C&P text in the reply.

Thank you. Troof troof,#92011/09/02goddez1InactiveJoined:2002/01/12Messages:2,975Likes Received:49 Hi troof,

Rather than beating this to death with trying to explain what a "jumplist" is and win7 defaults for such lets do something else.

Find your seamonkey.exe, usually in C:\Program Files (x86)\seamonkey. When found rightclick on it and selesct "send to "> "desktop as shortcut "

Make sure you have unpinned any seamonkey icon to taskbar you may have.

Now rightclick on this desktop short and select "properties ".

Popup will open. Click on the tab named "shortcut ". In the typein field named Target will be a command string and at the very end of that string will be a switch named "-safemode ". It is this switch which I want you to remove or delete. Apply and okay your way out.

Now open browser using this shortcut and pin that to the taskbar.

What is your rightclick jumplist now?

NOTE* alternate way to open jumplist is to leftclick hold and drag up just a bit the taskbar icon for the program.

----------------------
To review while browse is opened, ctrl+t opens new tab
ctrl+n opens new window. Correct?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe "

No switch named safemode.

ctrl+t yes a tab opens.
ctrl+n yes a new window opens with an error message "File not found"

I have a feeling this may have something to do with my previous versions of SM. I have deleted my previous versions of SM. Maybe it is trying to open one of those? troof,#112011/09/02troofWell-Known MemberThread StarterJoined:2002/02/10Messages:170Likes Received:0 Sorry I left this out of the last post.

This is what is in the target window when I open shortcut in the properties of the desktop shortcut of SM.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe " troof,#122011/09/03goddez1InactiveJoined:2002/01/12Messages:2,975Likes Received:49 Clarafy:
Reguardless of error "file not found ", is the new window a browser window for seamonkey?

Still no Taskbar>seamonkey task ico>rightclick>jumplist. Are you grouping icons?

Do you use cccleaner? (long shot but worth knowing and checking for)
CCleaner, go to Cleaner--> Windows tab, and in the "Windows Explorer" section, deselect "Taskbar Jump Lists " Last edited: 2011/09/04Anngoddez1,#132011/09/06troofWell-Known MemberThread StarterJoined:2002/02/10Messages:170Likes Received:0 Hi goddez1. thanks for hanging in there. I think this matter is to trivial to really keep beating on it. However in answer to your question - yes a new SM browser does open along with the error message. Also I am not grouping icons.

Anyhow here are some things I have found since I last posted which make the above moot.

I found the SM shortcut in my SM folder in my Start-All programs-SeaMonkey.

When the SM shortcut is activated it seems to work just fine but still no change in my right click icon display. I tried the things you mentioned with the short cut properties and still no change to the jumplist.

I have not a clue as to why your right click displays "Frequent" and "Tasks" in your jump list and my right click SM icon in task bar only displays SM icon (new window), unpin and close as in the bottom of you right click SM taskbar icon. All of our preferences are exactly the same in Tabbed Browsing and Link Behavior.

This was just one of those minor things that has no real effect on my life as I know it. Was more of a curiosity question then a - repair, can't go on - without an answer type of question.

My question now is do I mark this as resolved or not?

Thank you, Troof troof,#142011/09/06goddez1InactiveJoined:2002/01/12Messages:2,975Likes Received:49 Yah,, we about beat this to death. Up to you whether you wish to mark it as resolved. You can always unmark or take up the issue, again, anytime you wish. Just remember Jumplist is really a windows 7 thing. Actions will be effected by the application they are provided for. Tasks are "user tasks" based on logined user and preferences and how you use the app. Jumplist are meant to be just a convenient way of accesses some of the frequent things done with the app, in 1 or 2 clicks.

Perhaps ctrl+N and new window (error) are based on the link you have set this new window to open to. Wish we could have figured this out but I had a bit of fun scratching my head about it, on occasion, so all is not worthless. Been fun and hope to see you with happier results. Anngoddez1,#152011/09/06troofWell-Known MemberThread StarterJoined:2002/02/10Messages:170Likes Received:0 Thanks for all your help. Glad I didn't take up your time in vain. Some day the answer will magically make itself known to me and I will look this up and make it known to the world.

I too enjoy some of the unintended lessons learned on WBBS. Always fun to take away tidbits that I never knew before. Always a good exercise. Troof troof,#16(You must log in or sign up to reply here.)Show Ignored Content /* /* ]]> */ Share This PageTweet
