After the Chucky house, perhaps the most fun I had at Halloween Horror Nights this year was Terror Tram: The Exterminatorz. Terror Tram often leans into humor along with horror, and this year there's a sarcastic environmental message thrown into this mix, as well. The tram ride provides just enough time to set up the first walk-through scarezone, at the Bates Motel set, before we pass the War of the Worlds set then head across the street for our walk through the Jupiter's Claim set from Jordan Peele's "Nope." This year, there's a mash-up with the Tethered from Peele's "Us" on the faux theme park streets, as well.
For all fans of horror and filmmaking we're back in 2024, bigger and better than before! We're playing two days at our home, the wonderful JAXX THEATRE, 1089 N. Oxford Ave., Hollywood. With star-studded premieres and Hollywood career celebrations (names to be announced shortly). We have our own coffee bar the entire weekend - for networking and relaxing between (and during) events - and we also plan to honor a celebrity star with the prestigious PRICE AWARD and raise funds for the VINCENT PRICE ART MUSEUM.
1. Entry Rules
We accept ANY films, produced ANY year, in ANY category you feel is grindhouse or exploitation-genre related (horror, action, sci-fi, martial arts, animation, film noir, teen comedy, erotic, blacksploitation etc).
The Hollywood Horrorfest delivered a chilling celebration of all things macabre and thrilling. This year's lineup offered a diverse array of terrifying tales, showcasing both established and emerging talent within the horror genre. With its eerie atmosphere, diverse selection, and commitment to fostering new voices, the festival proved itself as a must-attend for horror enthusiasts seeking scares and cinematic brilliance.
We were thrilled to win 'Best Sci-Fi Short' at Hollywood Horrorfest! The experience was great and there was a fantastic horror lineup. A big shoutout to the Hollywood Horrorfest team for a wonderfully organized event. Can't wait to participate again in the future! ??
For those who love all things monsters, gore, and horror, Halloween Horror Nights is the annual event that takes place at both theme parks now through October 31. Featuring unique Scare Zones and bespoke haunted houses celebrating horror franchises like The Exorcist: Believer, Universal Monsters: Unmasked, Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count, Stranger Things 4, and The Last of Us, the Halloween Horror Nights (or HHN) festivities take over both parks once the sun sets. And because of that, trying to experience everything you want in one night of fun can feel a bit overwhelming to navigate.
The original attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood, the World-Famous Studio Tour, gets a horror-themed update each year during the event, becoming Terror Tram, which invites guests to explore the iconic Universal Hollywood backlot with a sinister twist. That's far from the only ride that's open during the event, however.
In many ways the Hollywood event is similar to the original horror event hosted at Universal Studios Orlando, as the two share some haunted houses. However, Hollywood has a few distinct elements, including exclusive houses, scare zones and eats, that make it a different experience. The park leans into its Southern California influences with unique specialty foods and features an exclusive original composition from LA rock icon Slash.
Disneyland, located about 35 miles away, offers its own ticketed Halloween event, Oogie Boogie Bash, which takes a tamer, more family-friendly approach to the holiday and is more suitable for younger guests.
Last month, a friend and I flew to Los Angeles to attend 1 Sunday evening at Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights (HHN). We made it a 3 night trip during Halloween weekend which also included two day visits to the theme park. I love Halloween and watching horror movies, so was excited to see how wheelchair accessible this event would be.
This event has 8 haunted houses, 3 scare zones, Terror Tram, 2 shows, unique merchandise and food. All the theme park rides are open too. Wait times will be shorter as most people are doing the exclusive horror nights attractions. We did all the main stuff at the park the last 2 days and will only do the Halloween attractions.
This is a clear example of the issue of genre bias in Hollywood: excellent genre films, particularly horror films, are consistently cast aside and do not gain the recognition and respect that they deserve. The complete disregard for Hereditary during the Academy Awards is not an isolated incident, and is exceedingly common throughout the history of Hollywood. This treatment of well-made horror movies and other genre fare is ridiculous, and makes the Oscars seem snobbish and condescending to the average moviegoer.
"It's very true," he admitted. "We're both in the business of scaring people. I do it with TV shows and films, and he does it live, and the one thing that bridges the gap between those two things is horror movies. We've had a lot to discuss over the years."
Something else that's a departure for the partners is Blumhouse: Behind the Screams, which is described as "an original concept that showcases a selection of Blumhouse horror films" and "breaks the fourth wall." As well as an elaborate show, it also offers fans an up-close look at authentic props, costumes, and character encounters. It features upcoming releases, The Exorcist: Believer and Five Nights at Freddy's, and fan-loved hits like The Black Phone.
Blumhouse Productions recently got a scare of its own when Taylor Swift announced the release of her film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, based on her blockbuster shows, would be landing in theaters on Friday, October 13, the exact date that The Exorcist: Believer was due to open. The supernatural horror film quickly shifted to Friday, October 6, 2023.
MUST SEE!! Easy drive from Raleigh. Best horror show on the planet!! Those Jones Brothers REALLY know how to scare NC. Makeup is at its finest in true Hollywood fashion, as expected. Always a blast, super friendly staff, amazing props. Great time!
Visited just this past weekend it is the largest indoor haunted attraction in the state and well worth the money . If you're a fan of horror films it's right up your alley it's just like walking through a film set from the costumes , sets, and make up , it's a visual playground. The only haunted attraction produced by people who have a connection to the film industry. Will be going back again next weekend taking more friends . A incredible bargain at just $25 for what you get to experience . And all the parking is free unlike other haunts in the area. Make sure you check out the museum displaying some of the actors the brothers have worked with!! Very impressive!!
I've been to many haunts in the triad area and all claim to be the scariest. The Original Hollywood Horror Show is by far the most frightening! The Horror Show is not only unique but highly detailed with various makeup effects and characters. The show is nothing like a walk through the woods but more like a walk through a series of terrifying film sets, each with fully interactive characters and prosthetic appliances not store bought masks. The haunted attraction has something for everyone and if you enjoy horror, Halloween, or art this is the place for you!
Would we return? Absolutely! However, I think we would do a day time trip on a separate day from our Halloween horror Night to ensure we made it to the end! Plus, I love celebrating big days at theme parks (NYE at Disney EPCOT anyone?)
In a way, this makes sense. A recent Guardian article describes how women have historically been drawn to the genre. Many beloved horror films have strong female leads: Carrie, The Descent, and The Witch, to name a few.
For decades, sexually active women in horror movies tend to die first as punishment for sexual transgression. We see this in Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Whether you want to party with the scary monsters (if you're over 21 with valid ID) with HHN inspired cocktails, or you just want to taste all of the specialty foods created for each park celebrating the haunted houses and horror characters, there are plenty of options. HHN Orlando has a broad selection of dinner, dessert, and drink options. While HHN Hollywood has a whole Dia de los Muertos festival area for food, and a bunch of pop-up areas. There's also CityWalk in both theme parks offering Halloween inspired items like milkshakes, doughnuts, and more before you enter the park.

The very first time my wife Flora (Mommy Frog to many of you) and I attended Halloween Horror Nights, we did it all wrong. We did no advance research, had a standard ticket, did not utilize Early Entry time (in fact, we arrived late), spent the first hour in a show and spent a lot of time in long lines. We did not hit all the mazes that year. It was our own night of horror as we are not patient frogs and prefer to skip the lines. The next year, we did our research and accomplished so much more, hitting every house, show, scare zone and Terror Tram. Now, we have it all down and can share what we've learned with you.
Because the September 11 attacks occurred so close to Halloween Horror Nights XI, Universal made many changes to tone down the event. Much gore was scrapped from the event, and blood was replaced with green "goop". The names of several houses, scare zones, and shows were changed. The original icon character "Eddie" was scrapped. Edgar Sawyer was conceived as a demented, chainsaw-wielding horror movie buff that had been disfigured by a fire. He was supposed to be a threat to previous icon Jack and the tagline "No more clowning around" was used, and seen on early advertisements and merchandise. Eddie was ultimately removed from the event before it began, although he was still appearing on that year's logo and merchandise with the official "I.C.U." tagline. As a hurried replacement, Jack would return along with a line of merchandise bearing the tagline "Jack's Back." Eddie's back-story was changed, and his name was changed to Eddie Schmidt, Jack's younger brother.[16] The event again ran for 19 days, admission was $48, with five haunted houses. The dual house was in Soundstage 22.[17][18]
