OKthank you to @MadSystem for pointing me in the right direction. Checking out this thread: Association .uproject / unreal are broken - Debugging, Optimization, & Profiling - Epic Developer Community Forums

Windows 11, this solution does not work for me. I am at a complete loss here. This works flawlessly on my Windows 10 systems but on a brand new Win 11 system, I never get an option to generate the VS files in the normal menu or the extended menu.

Found a very cheeky workaround. When you generate vs files, show the log, then when you see the scroll bar, click and hold it and it will remain open. The only problem is that you have to catch it when the error message displays since it will not update the message when the scroll bar is held. Good luck!

Check if you have more than one version of VS installed. I took the error in a slow motion video and found it mention an error with the VS 2015. I had both 2015 and 2017 installed. After uninstalling 2015 it compiled normally. Also make sure you have installed the NuGet package manager in 2017 or it will throw another error.

Of course you have to archive and restore the project to "clean" it, but the archiver does exactly what you intend, keeping those files that are referenced in the project, also if they are not explicitely included in the project file list. I'm not aware of another tool with this functionality.

...if you have .sopc builder files/wrappers tha you have created to import into your design in a user library, these files are NOT included in a QAR file automatically. Not certain if there is a setting that will allow these to be pulled in or not...

The project managers at my company were asked to use Microsoft Project 2013 to track our projects, but many of the business stakeholders do not have Project installed. It looks like I cannot just export the task list or Gantt chart as a PDF. There's this awful combined view for printing that just stretches lists and charts across pages and the PDF export seems to only print the same view, just to a PDF instead. I've used reports a little, but haven't found a quick solution to my problem there either.

Have you considered exporting the relevant data to Excel? If you display the Task Sheet (use the View ribbon) you can certainly save that view as PDF as well. Saving as PDF just prints the current view to a PDF printer.

Other possible solution would be to upload your MS Project file to google drive. Once there, try to open it and a popup will display asking you to use a couple of free tools:1. Gantter for google drive2. Project viewer for google drive

The Copy > Copy Picture option in 2013 has worked wonders for our communication. You can copy for screen, print, full size, etc. and it will be stored as an image on the clipboard.

I really struggled with this problem and was very frustrated with the options for formatting when exporting to a PDF. But I have made the most progress when using the "Page Setup" options available when Printing to PDF.

If I set the paper size to something very large, then it will fit a lot more on the page and in a more convenient layout. You can also specify how many pages wide and tall you would like the final document to be so that it doesn't spread out into that ridiculous grid mentioned above. You also have options to hide the legend and show more or fewer of the columns.

I highly recommend FOSS GanttProject to open the MS Project .mpp files, works really well. Viewing is much more felxible than any pdf/image based method, and it's free/open source so no adds/bloatware.

I have used Copy> Copy Picture option and then pasted it in Word Pad. This way the entire project is copied and pasted. To see the details one has to only zoom in and scroll without going from page to page.

The only thing I would add is how to get to this button. Click above the ribbon (IN MS Project 2013) where the "Quick access toolbar" is, choose customize and add copy picture from the options list. Once you try the copy picture a few times you'll get the hang of it. it's pretty straight forward and I will use a combination of filtering per resource in project then this copy picture trick instead of xlsx and pdf from now on.

For people who don't have Microsoft Project installed on their computer, I will recommend an online project viewer as long as the files are up to 2MB. Cloud storage is also available. Online viewer - -project-viewer

Probably a silly question but I've inherited some code and I'm trying to find all instances of a particular variable throughout the entire project. I've been using the Find/Replace feature but it seems to only scan the current .c or .h that I have open. Since there are a ton of files in this project and I'm not very familiar with it, I'd like to have a feature that will basically just run through all of the files in the project explorer and find this text rather than just what's open and actively displayed on the screen.

It looks like that CTRL-H search is doing what I was hoping for except for some reason its not finding all of them. One term I was trying to search for found 2 instances...one in a .C and one in a header file. I know of one more location though at least, because I copied the entire line of code that uses this term into another location (which happens to be one of the 2 instances that the search found). It doesn't however find the original line that I copied it from in another .C file.

I'm still having some trouble searching for text in all my project files. See attached picture of my CTRL-H from the thread you recommended. The comment I circled is what preventing this I believe. I also tried the one tab over - File Search. It didn't even find the one match that the C/C++ Search found. I can test it out by putting text in other files and copy/pasting right into the search and it doesn't find them. Any pointers would be appreciated!

When I import my MS project files into smartsheet it appears to lose information and change some of my start and finish dates. I have project but others in my company use smartsheet to view the schedules but the dates they are seeing are different.

Hi Roy, I am quite a heavy user of Project and have imported large schedules into Smartsheet. In theory if the schedule in project has been fully calculated and saved before importing then Smartsheet should faithfully recreate the dates as in the source plan.

The scheduling engine (if it can be called that) in Smartsheet is much less sophisticated that MS Projects and certain aspects simply don't exist (as far as I can see) eg Constraint Types, Constraint Dates, Task Types, Effort Driven etc. This I guess, could result in the imported dates being modified by Smartsheet's more basic scheduling.

What I would do is to save your Start and Finish dates within Project into spare fields such as Start 1 and Finish 1. Then import the schedule into Smartsheet. You can then compare any variances between what came from the MS Project schedule and how it has ended up in Smartsheet ie compare Start and Start1 and Finish and Finish1

My problem with importing from MS project to SmartSheet is the structure and the tasks. Some of the task are relocated in the schedule, and the structure changes as well. Can anyone help me with this subject?

Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help.

hello, I have the same problem as Mehran, super annoying. I have converted my entire company to smartsheet but external collaborators send us MS project (for which we dropped the licences...) and now I have a few reported cases of waky imports. I can't even tweak the initial MS projects without licences.

I have the same problem as well with imports of MS Project putting tasks in wrong places, even making a subtask of another group of tasks as a parent task of another set of tasks. Date changes have also occurred. I've tried it on a fairly simple plan with these results. Please let us know when we might expect to see it tested and fixed as we'll need to hold off on using this feature until then as it won't be efficient to use until we know it will import the project plans correctly Thank you.

I'm having the same issues. Moving tasks to become subtasks of another task. Date changing. As well as predecessors not being of a similar format, so they don't carry over. 80-90% imports just fine, however the remaining errors mean I have to confirm every line manually. This makes the import function unusable without several hours of editing. Any word on a resolution for this issue?

I have the same problem where tasks are rearranged; tasks get moved to become parents of unrelated tasks, etc. I would love to know if this is going to be addressed by anyone at Smartsheet given this has been open for quite a while.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I have had the similar issues when importing MPP. I just discovered that if sub-tasks in the MPP file are collapsed then Smartsheet ignores them on import. This creates havoc with predecessors which in turn affects dates.

I'm having the same issue when opening a client's MPP schedule in Smartsheet. The start and end dates are accurate in some task rows however they are inaccurate in many. Is this on the roadmap to be fixed?

I found an old post from 2017 that an export from MS Project as XML will work. This is only partially true, as it doesn't bring in ALL the columns. But it may be enough to support the needs of some on this thread.

TIP: Microsoft Project has some features, such as constraints, that are not supported in Smartsheet, and may cause rows to be out of order when importing .mpp files. To resolve this, try saving the .mpp file as .xml and importing the new .xml copy. If the issue persists, reach out to our support team.
