[2024 Project] West-Running Brook

It seems that the only available scans of this work are on Google Books, and they aren't viewable for me even with a VPN. Is this just because they're not PD yet or can someone in the US view them?

The transcription could be compared with later collections of his poems, such as this 1930 one from the same publisher or this 1964 one, but those aren't PD so I don't imagine they can be cited in the metadata.

All versions of Frost's Collected Poems I've seen also include a final poem, "The Egg and the Machine", that does not appear in the PG Canada transcription. Presumably it should be excluded until it can be verified that it appeared in the 1928 edition.

Sorry, by "final poem" I mean the final poem of the "West-Running Brook" section of each collection, not the final poem of each collection.

If you can't find usable scans then we have to skip this for now until
the scans become available. GB does not allow you to view non-PD scans.
You would have to find them on IA.

Siegfried Sassoon's 1928 Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man from the Wikipedia list has scans and a FP transcription. It is around 101k words and won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize so seems like a worthwhile addition; could I change to that one?

Being considerably longer than the poetry it would result in slower progress on Principia Ethica, which I've only just started proofreading. Is that OK?

Actually the FP transcription is of an edition first published in 1929 by Doubleday, Doran while the scans are of the 1928 first edition published by Faber and Faber. There doesn't seem to be another transcription so given comments about other books for next year this won't be viable; sorry.

About West-Running Brook, scans now seem to be accessible both through Google Books and HathiTrust.

Also, I'd like to know about the possibility of converting the multiple Robert Frost poem collections on SE into a single omnibus of poems. Right now, about half of Frost's poems are in the PD, and the 1930s collection of these won him another Pulitzer price after New Hampshire. Since it wouldn't be his entire life's work, the collection could be called "Early Poetry" rather than the "Poetry" title of other omnibus releases.

Right now, SE is missing Frost's A Boy's Will  and Mountain Interval along with the aforementioned West-Running Brook. I would like to work on these three collections of poems as my first SE project if possible, and release them as I suggested. Otherwise, I could work on them one by one and release them as separate collections like previous SE projects.

Whether or not we do an omnibus depends on if Frost ever published
uncollected poetry. I presume he did since he was pretty prolific, but
you'd have to put together a spreadsheet of his poetry corpus and see
where each one was published.

If there are duplicates across collections or uncollected items, we
would do an omnibus. Otherwise, we can do each each book individually.

Also, we usually have people work on a short prose book (something listed in the "For your first production" list or comparable) before working on poetry collections. The HTML formatting we use for poetry is substantially more complex than the formatting we use for prose, and it's helpful to get a foundational understanding of the SE toolset and process by working on a simple prose project before going deeper into something like a poetry collection.

From what I can tell from looking at some of Frost's larger collected "complete" works over the years, all of his poems appear to have been included in his main poetry books. What's more, some poems like Asking for Roses from "A Boy's Will" seem to have been omitted in all of Frost's modern omnibus "complete works" releases. So it seem it'd be more appropriate to stick with single book releases for SE

Since Frost's first book, "A Boy's Will", is fairly short in length, would it be OK to work on it as my first project? I haven't really found some other short prose book which interests me as much as this project.

We don't want "seems", we need an actual spreadsheet to map all this
out. If there are already modern omnibuses then we also probably want to
do an omnibus.
