This is the only book published by Leibniz during his lifetime, and as far as I've been able to gather from bibliographies, the E. M. Huggard translation that PG hosts is the only English translation of the work that exists. It first appeared in 1951 so must have been a Rule 5 or 6 clearance. I suppose it was the former as there doesn't seem to be a copyright notice in the scans.

PG: https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/17147
IA: https://archive.org/details/theodicyessayson0000gott/

The transcription was made from a 1985 Open Court edition, whose verso page says "this edition first published 1951 by Routledge & Kegan Paul."

The linked scans correspond to that 1951 first edition.

Scans of the Open Court volume were apparently once on IA, but are no longer borrowable: https://archive.org/details/theodicyessayson0000leib

If using the 1951 scans sounds OK, I'll start on it, and I think the editor's introduction can be kept. I looked for PD proof of theĀ Francke portrait of Leibniz and haven't found anything yet, but would be surprised if it can't be found.
