Someone sent me this message directly. Can anyone advise how I should reply?

I apologize for contacting you personally but I wasn’t sure how to post the issue on the mailing list. It’s very probable it’s my own fault and I’m just not aware what I’m doing wrong. I’m currently using a Kindle Oasis and side loaded a few books to try out the SE ebooks. They’re wonderfully done and I hope to contribute financially to the project when I’m able to.

The issue I’m having is that the books aren’t showing up when I do the “Grid” view . I side loaded them successfully and everything loaded fine. The beautiful covers were visible. But when I turned on the wifi on my Oasis the titles disappeared. And I’ve tried rebooting my device to no avail. Would you happen to know why the covers wouldn’t show after the wifi being turned on?

I thank you for your time.

Did they copy the thumbnail files? Also, I've noticed that sometimes sync can mess with thumbnails. What they can do is attach the Kindle via USB and go into system/thumbnails and check the thumbnail files to see if they have been corrupted (you can open them and see if they have the default "no image available" thumbnail). In that case they can delete the corrupted thumbnail and reload the thumbnail from their computer. This is from my experience in using the Kindle for SE books

I've had a similar problem with my Kindle Paperwhite. So far the only solution I've been able to find is the following:

1) Add the books on to the Kindle and allow the covers to disappear.
2) Plug the Kindle back into the PC
3) Navigate to the folders on the Kindle in Windows Explorer
4) Delete the "amazon-cover-bug" folder (which appears every time I add new books to my Kindle)
5) Disconnect the Kindle from the PC.

I wish there was a more striaghtforward solution. It's got something to do with the Kindle attempting to find the book cover online (hence why it happens when connected to Wi-Fi).

Isn’t that the classic Kindle Cover Bug? Covers from sideloaded books get deleted once it connects to internet.

The easiest way I found to fix it is to use Calibre because it does it automatically: once I’ve sideloaded an ebook and enabled the WiFi (thus allowing my Kindle to erase the cover), I connect it back to my computer and, if Calibre is running, it will get fixed in the background. Covers fixed that way won’t disappear unless the book is deleted and loaded again.
