to Standard Ebooks
Hi,

New member here who has been a beneficiary of books created in Standard Ebooks format my generous contributors.
To give back to the community, I am considering creating ebooks in Standard Ebooks format. I am quite conversant with technology so running tools etc is not an issue.
I do have a question about usage of tools like Claude Code. Is it ok to use these tools/GenAI to help with the process? I will ensure that the content remains true to its origins since I will use these tools for automation more than anything else.
Looking forward to responses

TIA,
Ravi

Hi Ravi, as long as the commits are as we expect them, then I don't
think it matters how you got there. However it will probably not be any
easier for you to try to get AI to do this work. Note that it is
prohibited for you to use AI to write the long or short descriptions in
the metadata.

If I may suggest, it would probably best to complete your first project without using any such AI tools, and then consider afterwards if any of them are worth incorporating into your workflow. In my experience, the main purpose of your first project is to understand how the production process works from end to end. Doing your first project manually will help deepen your understanding and give you a much better sense of where generative AI might be helpful or not.

Something else to note is that commit structure for our projects is extremely important since we expect change histories to be human readable (least of all because projects are reviewed commit by commit). We also expect editorial and non-editorial commits to be cleanly separated. You would need to factor this into however you plan to use generative AI (and again, you will probably not have a good sense of what this means without a project or two under your belt).
