Hi,

For my next project, I'd like to work on the "Journal of the Right Hon.
Sir Joseph Banks, during Captain Cook's first voyage in H.M.S. Endeavour
in 1768-71 to Terra del Fuego, Otahite, New Zealand, Australia, the
Dutch East Indies, etc.", as edited by Joseph D. Hooker in 1896.

Scans:
https://archive.org/details/b24764784/

There is a Wikisource transcription that looks quite good:
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Journal_of_the_Right_Hon._Sir_Joseph_Banks

The book is an edited transcription from 1896, based on the original
handwritten journal. It seems to be widely accepted.

The 1896 edition of Nature considered it "one of the classics of
scientific travel":
https://www.nature.com/articles/055073a0

The same text was republished by Cambridge University Press in 2011:
https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511996573

For completeness: I also came across a transcription of the original,
unedited handwritten journal, but that is far less readable and full of
unorthodox spelling:
https://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks05/0501141h.html

The book edited by Hooker contains some illustrations and maps, some
footnotes, some tables, some foreign language, some taxonomy, and many
diary entries with datelines. Fun, but less complex than Scrambles
Amongst the Alps. It is supposedly a nice read.

Would this be a suitable work to add to the collection?

Thanks,

Gijs

Sure, you can work on this. Also note in the manual how to format
coordinates. Please send a link to your repo once you start.

Great. See

I used Joseph D. Hooker as the author, but I can rename the repo to make
Joseph Banks the author if that's better.

I think the author has to be Banks, he's the one who wrote the journals!

OK, David will manage this with Emma reviewing.

I would also expand the abbreviation in the title to `Honorable`.
