It's time for another short project, and I would like to produce another Middle English poem. The unnamed author of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight also wrote The Pearl. Like with Sir Gawain, I plan to display the editor on the production's page.

The best edition of The Pearl is edited/translated by Sophie Jewett. There is a PG transcription, but it will need some work; it is missing the stanza numbering and contains a few typos. Other than those issues, it shouldn't be too hard.

PG transcription: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/13211
page scans: https://archive.org/details/pearlmiddleengli00jewe/page/n5/mode/2up
repository: https://github.com/EmmaSweeney/anonymous_the-pearl

I did find a painting that looks similar to a pearl (The Sun by Edvard Munch).

OK, sounds good. Robin will manage with David reviewing.

OK on the artwork but perhaps with not quite so tight a crop?

David, The Pearl by Anonymous is ready for review.

Notes:
  • I treated this as a rough transcription; I added the stanza numbering and corrected typos before I committed the transcription.
  • The editor receives special treatment, like with Sir Gawain.
  • Although there isn't any official label for the different stanza divisions, it seems like the most common term used is "section".

Okay! I should be able to get to this today or tomorrow. Thanks for the notes!

As a wise man once said, if only all reviews went so quickly! :) (And I think that crop of the cover image works very well.)

Ready for you, Alex!

(As noted, this is one of those edge cases where the "Editor" finds a place in the slug.)
