Hi all, thought I'd preempt the new year with a survey of what new stories are coming into the public domain which can be added to our existing short fiction collections. I've included links to transcriptions and scans as I can find them, but more may become available in the next couple weeks as sites release scans from 1927 publications. I may miss a few, as I did last year, but this should be a good start.

Ernest Hemingway
* Men Without Women - collection of 14 stories. Faded page has a transcription.

P. G. Wodehouse
Golf Stories
* "Those in Peril on the Tee" - Published in The Strand in June 1927 and Liberty in May 1927. This is also a Mr. Mulliner story, though we don't have a collection for that (yet).
Jeeves Stories
* "Jeeves and the Yule-tide Spirit" - Published December 1927 in both The Strand and Liberty

Robert E. Howard
* "The Lost Race" - Published January 1927 in Weird Tales
* "The Thessalians" - Published January 1927 in Yellow Jacket.
* "Ye College Days" - Published January 1927 in Yellow Jacket.
* "The Reformation: A Dream" - Published April 1927 in Yellow Jacket.
* "Cupid vs. Pollux" - Published October 1927 in Yellow Jacket.

H. P. Lovecraft
* "The Tomb" - Published January 1926 in Weird Tales. Missed this one last year.
* "The Cats of Ulthar" - Published November 1926 in Weird Tales. Missed this one last year.
* "The Terrible Old Man" - Published August 1926 in Weird Tales. Missed this one last year.
* "The Horror at Red Hook" - Published January 1927 in Weird Tales.
* "Pickman's Model" - Published October 1927 in Weird Tales.

Think that's everything this year. Thanks!

In a similar vein, the poems in God's Trombones can be added to Johnson's poetry collection. There's a transcription done by UNC: https://docsouth.unc.edu/southlit/johnson/johnson.html

Also, Alex, could I swap out the current cover of Johnson's poetry for The Judgment Day by Aaron Douglas? It is one of the illustrations accompanying God's Trombones (CTRL-F page 52b on the UNC page). I guess it's technically it's a gouache painting and not an oil painting, but it's more opaque a watercolor so I would argue in favor of it.

I've just made a pull request for the The Men Without Women stories to our Hemingway Short Fiction repo: https://github.com/standardebooks/ernest-hemingway_short-fiction/pull/1

I can add the Lovecraft stories too. Wikisource has some transcriptions, but I find it better to proofread some of those pretty closely. Faded page has some of them too.

Sure, you can do that. If you want to add the new collection then that
can be one big PR.

Sure, you can take on the Lovecraft.

However remember that Lovecraft's stories changed often when reprinted,
so you must proof against the Weird Tales page scans only, and bring the
transcriptions into alignment with those particular scans.

Bruce, do you want to take on these new Wodehouse stories?

Robin, any interest in continuing to do Robert E. Howard?

I’d like to get Poe and Potter done before picking up anything else. If it’s still hanging around after that then I’ll add them, but if anyone else has time feel free to go ahead.

What's the best way for me to keep track of these updates? I'll be wanting to add links to those stories' Wiki pages.

Probably just by hand for now. We don't really have an official central
place to track short fiction updates. That's certainly something to put
on the to do list if someone wants to take a crack at it.

It looks like both those Wodehouse stories were published in 1927 Strand (UK) and Liberty (US) and scans aren’t available anywhere I can find. I’ll check again later in the ear to see if they show up at some point.

I found the google books scans for The Strand Magazine that has those stories (Volume 73 and 74), but unfortunately no preview is available yet. The ones from 1926 are available so I'm hoping they make the ones from 1927 available soon.

OK, we have Hemingway, Wodehouse, and Johnson in.

Robert E. Howard and H. P. Lovecraft remain.

Matic are you still working on Lovecraft?

Anyone interested in picking up the Howard?

Yep, still working on it! Sorry for the wait.

The transcriptions have quite a few errors so I'm procrastinating from proofreading them... But I just finished the longest story of the bunch so hopefully I'll pick up the pace.

I decided to look at Robert E. Howard a bit more closely and I believe I found some other missing juvenilia of his. I also think I found the missing scans for some of the stories we already have.

It'll take a few days, but once I compile everything together, I'll post it on the original Robert E. Howard thread (so it doesn't get lost in here) and we can go from there.
