So, the source scan I gave earlier does not match the PG transcription. The PG transcription is of an American edition, but the source scan is an earlier British edition (the first I think). The only other PD scan I could find, and that is also an American edition is in a collected edition of Jules Verne's works: https://archive.org/details/worksofjulesvern14vernuoft/.

Should I use the American one?

What are the differences? I checked the first few paragraphs and they look identical. Spelling like en-US vs en-GB doesn't matter and you don't have to change that.

Alex, it was just American spellings in the PG transcription that I saw, not anything else.

So, then if it doesn't matter, then I'll just continue using the Sampson source scan. Thanks.

I've discovered, as I've worked through the book, that there are actually substantive differences between the editions. It seems to me that the PG transcription is of the US edition. Since I'm treating the UK edition as the source, I've been updating the transcription to match the UK edition. The two main differences are:

1. The UK edition tends to have more paragraph breaks. Text that appears in multiple paragraphs in the UK edition is combined into one paragraph in the US edition. I've been sometimes making the change to follow the UK edition, where I think it reads better. I'll mark these as [Editorial] commits. Here is a good example: https://github.com/ahacop/jules-verne_robur-the-conqueror/commit/098a11b18535a81504970c2f34898db573a061ac. I don't always break these paragraphs up.

2. The US edition is slightly abridged. I've been adding the text back, making sure that I change the spelling to US. I also mark these as [Editorial], but maybe I shouldn't be? I'd appreciate any guidance you could provide on my current approach. Should I continue doing what I'm doing? Thanks!

One other question I had was about whether I should include the illustrations from the UK edition in the SE edition? There are about 40, pretty nice ones, including a frontispiece.

Alex might overrule here but I think your changes re the text look reasonable.

The illustrations look decorative to me. If that's the case it's our policy not to include them.

What should I set for the translator? The PG transcription is clearly an American edition, but I've been adding missing text from the Sampson Low edition. So, should I list the translator as Sampson Low?

The cover looks good to me. Seems to fit the story.

If you've been bringing the text in line with the Samson Low edition you can list "Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington" as the translator (see Wikipedia). Add a production note describing the changes from the American edition.
