Going to wrap up Ring Lardner's short fiction corpus for now (until more stuff hits the PD anyway) and knock out Fred Gross Stories. This is a collection of seven short stories. Stories 1-4 were published in the book "Own Your Own Home" and the rest ran in Redbook Magazine.

Repo: https://github.com/homestar92/ring-lardner_fred-gross-stories

These are already on the spreadsheet:

Transcription source for stories 1-4 (archived from an old fan site long since dead): https://web.archive.org/web/20041025020917/http://www.tridget.com/lardnermania/oyoh/oyoh1.htm

Stories 5-7 will be self-transcriptions, which I already made months ago.

OK, sounds good. Sorry for the delay. Lukas will manage with David
reviewing.

Perfect. I already have a painting in mind for the cover. I would like to use Grant Wood's "The Birthplace of Herbert Hoover, West Branch, Iowa"
https://standardebooks.org/artworks/grant-wood/the-birthplace-of-herbert-hoover-west-branch-iowa

I realize that the association with a US President might give pause initially, but the only book about Hoover that I'm aware of that would fit with SE's collections policy are his memoirs, which won't be PD for another 20+ years, and can use one of his numerous official portraits when they do hit PD.

Significant parts of this collection of stories are about Fred Gross attempting to buy a modest home for his family and ending up getting railroaded by incompetent builders and contractors throughout the entire process. This painting looks like an idyllic sales brochure for a humble, midwestern, middle-class home. Exactly the sort of thing that Fred Gross would have been looking at when he decided to purchase his house. There aren't a lot of paintings of period-correct, region-correct, middle-class homes and I think this may be the singular unicorn that exists as a fine art oil painting.
